You have a Dracaena marginata tricolor and these are really nice house plants although they do get tall. Some people call these a Dragon Tree.

Growing indoors, try to place it on a north-facing windowsill where it will get good light but no direct sun.
Dragon trees prefer medium amounts of water but over watering will cause root rot quickly. To prevent root rot, make sure that you provide good drainage and be careful not to over water.

Under watering is better.
Try to keep it in a temperature range in between 65ºF and 80ºF.

I have this plant in my bedroom for over 10 years. I bought it when it was in a small 3-4" planter size from Home Depot. I believe it's called a Dracaena plant (or something very similar).
