Increasing Hair Growth Rate?

How can you grow hair really fast? My friend has trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) and is really insecure about it. I really want to help her.

Hair grows about half an inch a month. Provided your friends diet is good, there is nothing you can do to make it grow faster.

If this is the case then you should look for different hairstyles that she can do with her hair to hide some of the spots she has pulled out. As for growing her hair back faster there is no products on the market that actually work.

You can teach her to wear scarfs and comb her hair in different ways to hide the bald spots or short spots in her hair.

Preventing breakage = Longer Hair

Don't use hair brushes of any kind. If you insist on brushing your hair, at least never, ever brush your hair when it is wet. When your hair is wet it becomes more fragile. Wet hair stretches which thins it making it break off easy.

Use a child's detangling crème/rinse after washing your hair if it tangles any. The child's crème is more of a one solution to one problem. It doesn't have all the additives that an adults detangling creme has. The adult type tries to solve multiple problems so therefore has more junk in them.

Do not wash your hair everyday. Washing it one or two times a week is plenty if your hair is not super oily. This helps to strengthen your hair strands.

Let your hair dry naturally without much combing. Heat is bad for your hair. If you must blow dry your hair then use the cooler setting.

Always use a big tooth comb on your hair after washing and any other time that you can get by with it.

Use a shampoo that is not real harsh and always use a leave in conditioner. Do not use mousse, gel, or hairspray. If your hair needs taming down, then use something like Suave Anti-Frizz Crème. You put just a tiny amount in your palms and work it into you hair to the tips. You start away from your scalp at least a few inches. You can do this daily if needed but less is more if you don't want it looking oily, dirty, or dull.

This last trick is like magic for making hair actually grow faster. I know for a fact that this works. I have done it multiple times. It sounds weird but works. I discovered it by accident due to being very ill and in bed for long periods of time. This works best if your hair already has some length. Put it on top of your head using only 2 or 3 clips. Start with your head upside down. Pull into a ponytail on top of your head. Loosely twist from the base and continue twisting to the end. Now just make a small circle/bun on top of your head continuing round repeatedly till all your hair is in a small bun. Don't pull it too tight. Add small claw clips on each side and leave it for a week to a month at a time. When you take it down you will see a notable growth compared to normal. This works because you are giving your hair a vacation from stress, chemicals, and heat. In a years time doing this over and over my hair grows about 15 inches a year. Everyone's hair grows at different speeds. Growing up, I could never get my hair more than 2/3 down my back. Now I am 60 and my hair is below my waist. It was very, very short (less than 5 inches long) 10 years ago. I have cut between 15 and 20 inches off at least 5 times in the last 10 years.
