Go ahead and try it---that is all you can do. To me, it sounds awfully messy. People have a certain type of hair that is intended for them. There is an over the counter supplement that you can buy that is supposed to help hair, skin and nails, but I don't know if it works or not.

I have used olive oil or carrot oil or tea tree oil. It won't make your hair grow thicker or grow faster, but it is good for your hair and scalp. It only made my hair shiny and healthy. =~) As we grow older, our hair slows down it's growing, as in anything else lol. Go ahead and use it. It make my hair shine and softer more than it ever has.

This is how I did it. Rub the oil all over your scalp and into your hair really good. pile your hair on top of your head and put a plastic shower cap or something over it, making sure it will stay in place. Leave oil in hair over night or for at least 8 hours. Wash and rinse twice to remove all the oil. Dry and style. Good luck.

That along with other remedies are old wives tales. Was a hairstylist for 35 years as were both of my parents. Nothing is going to make your hair grow faster or thicker. Hair growth and the amount you have is genetic and the majority of human beings in the world have hair growth of about 1/2 inch per month.

Also, everyone loses about 100 hairs a day based on a seven year life cycle. When those hairs are about seven years old they fall out and new ones start growing in to replace them. The best thing to do to help keep hair healthy is to eat healthy balanced meals and exercise.

Some medications cause hair to thin because they rob vitamins and minerals from your body so if you take medications ask your doctor which and how much vitamins and/or minerals you should take to balance. Also, stress, anxiety and hormonal changes can cause excessive hair loss.

I am an African teen and my hair has always been shorter than ear length. What can I do to make my hair grow? I stopped relaxing it. All I do is use cod fish oil and flat iron my hair. I am not happy with the results. I feel so ugly sometimes, when I look at my hair. It has really lowered my self esteem. I need a miracle.

KAS, I read this on a website: It said not to wash your hair too often because that will make it dry out an break off. Have it trimmed (just a little) every couple of months and use a conditioner every time you shampoo. Lots of conditioner and you should see an improvement.

I hate my hair sometimes too! But may I say without offending you to remember you are a beautiful daughter of God and he doesn't mess up!

Just like a plant that needs nourishment of minerals to grow abundantly and healthy, your head of hair needs nutrition also; begin by taking multivitamins and eating lots of fresh vegetables daily. In six months you should see your hair is longer. You must build up your body that's lacking in certain vitamins and minerals first before you notice improvement with your hair. Be consistent.

The vitamin that helps hair growth is Biotin. Get that as a supplement insted of a multi-vitamin. Not only will the dosage be more (than what is normally included in a multi) it will be alot cheaper.

What oils make hair and fingernails grow faster?

By Sethy

Answers

Best Answer

I've currently been growing out my hair for almost a year, and these steps really work. This is what I've done and I hope some of these things work for you. :)

Hair normally grows about half an inch per month. So if your looking to grow it three inches, it will take six months. Six inches will take a year. But this can really speed up the process.

1. Minimize using heat on hair. Heat + hair = split ends. It doesn't mean you can't use heat, it just means to use less of it. Instead of blow drying hair on high heat, try medium. Instead of straightening it every day, curl your hair with braids or by scrunching.

2. Hair vitamins work miracles. So does anything with bioton. And anything made especially for hair, skin, or nails. You can find these at your local health store. Just tell one of the women who are working there, you are looking for a vitamin that promotes hair growth and strengthens hair. And they will help you find what you are looking for. Not only do these help with hair, but they make your nails grow faster and stronger and they clear your skin. Hence, hair, skin and nails. :)

3. Massaging your scalp for 15 minutes a day stimulates blood flow and helps hair grow faster. Just take your fingers and give yourself a scalp message. Feels great too.

4. Use a hair mask about once a week to deep condition hair. Doesn't have to be expensive. V05 has one for just $3.99 and it works great. A hot oil treatment works great too.

5. Get your hair cut every six to eight weeks, and just get your hair stylist to remove your split ends. Doing this won't stop hair growth, doing so will stop your hair from splitting farther up and having to get more cut off. Just let your stylist know that you want to grow it out and only want the very dead ends taken off.

6. And most importantly, drink water! Lots of it! Eating well is also important. Make sure you are eating enough fish, salmon, and lentils. Fruits and vegetables are also good foods which keep you and your hair healthy. Its not so much on what you put on your hair, but what you put in your body. If your eating a well balanced diet, your hair should be silky, shiny and most of all, healthy as well.

And if your someone like me who had to go through that "awkward" faze in growing out hair, and finally giving up and chopping it all off, go to your hair stylist and tell her your frustrated and you are trying to grow it out. Hair dressers have excellent ways in cutting very little off your hair and really giving you a great shape so it can still grow out and look good while doing so.

I have always had healthy but fine hair, and then began noticing my hair was thinning out to much, my skin began to give me problems & as much as I took care of my nails, they began to break constantly. It turned out I had hypothyroidism and even with treatment. Ive not been the same. So rather than getting disgusted with myself, I began getting my hair & nails done more often & there has been an big big difference for the better. So my point is, it may & can be health or diet related, even the medications you take can do it to you. Either way take time to pamper yourself, because as we all know if we look good we feel good.

I have read that gently pulling on the hair will help it to grow. The directions were to run your fingers into your hair at the scalp and from there pull very, very gently. I have never tried for any length of time so I don't know if it will help your hair to grow more quickly, but it does feel good. Since hair grows slowly, it may take some time to see results. Good luck.

If you are in good health your hair is going to grow at your inherited amount of length each month. For the majority of people in the world that is 1/2 inch per month and there is absolutely no way to speed that process up. If you have health issues and/or take medications have your doctor order a full range of blood tests to see what your body might be lacking so you can take supplements he/she recommends if need be.

Since you said your hairstylist recommended you cut so much length off because of split ends that tells me (I was a hairstylist for 35 years as were both of my parents before me) that you need to be more gentle on your hair. Hair and nails are dead appendages once they grow out of the follicle/cuticle and once damaged all you can to is cut or try using certain products that will hopefully make them appear more healthy looking.

Use only a wide tooth comb when your hair is wet, a boar bristle brush when it's dry and either way start gently combing/brushing from the end of your hair up to your scalp. The less you fuss with your hair the better and protecting from the elements, such as a hat in the sun or bathing cap in the pool or salt water and air dry or minimal blow dryer use is a good idea too. Also, don't use rubber bands other than the cloth type meant for hair use.

Oh, and have a trim to remove any possible new split ends every six to eight weeks to keep control of possible future splits. Once a split starts it will continue splitting up the hair shaft until the splits are removed. If you are gentle you might not have to have a trim for a few months. I haven't needed a trim for over six months.

Deeli gave you great advice! My mom has very fine hair & she never used a brush or comb. She has used a hair pick for over 30 years now & uses a vinegar rinse occasionally. She almost never has split ends & only gets her hair trimmed when she gets a perm(a couple of times a year). Her hair stylists have all marveled at how healthy & beautiful her hair is. Wish I would take the time to follow her advice! LOL! And I have had a terrible problem with losing my hair (I had a badly receded hairline!) this last couple of years & I can tell you it was from a medical condition & deficiencies that I am correcting now that I know about them, & my hair is coming back.

Healthy hair comes from within. Exercise regularly and eat a healthy well balanced diet. Hair is a dead appendage once it leaves the hair follicle at your scalp so you must be gentle with it and your hair is not going to grow any faster than genetically pre-disposed which, for the majority of humans on the planet, is 1/2 inch per month.

First, zinc and iron are good vitamins to take to grow out long hair. Also, using olive oil shampoos (you can find them online if you look) provide shine and hair growth. Also, go to a massage salon, and if they offer scalp massages, those supposedly help induce hair growth, although I am not sure about that.

Again, Annia, there is no product that will make your hair grow that fast either. With your nails you have the option of getting artificial nails. But with your hair there is no similar option, other than a wig. As with your nails, vitamins will help your hair become more healthy, but it takes time. Hair and nails only grow so fast and nothing will make them grow faster.

The posts listed in this section are all terrific and right on! Also remember to not whip or snap your hair to keep it from breaking off. That is, use a natural brush and don't go faster at the ends. Don't ever let your hair blow in the wind, it not only drys out your hair, but makes hard tangles (sometimes have to cut them out), and again, snaps off the ends. Treat your hair like the valuable possession that you desire.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for growing hair or repairing damaged hair. First, you need to be very careful about how you treat it. Stop using any harsh products on your hair. Avoid gels/sprays with alchohol. Use shampoo for dry/damaged hair and a good conditoner. You should also try not to die it anymore until it grows out. Be gentle when you brush/comb so as not to cause more split ends. Continue to get regular trims. I know this sounds like the opposite of what you should do but regular trims keep split ends from getting worse. Good nutrition will help over time. They also make a daily vitamine especially designed to promote hair and nail growth. If you must color your hair while it's growing out, try a semi-perminate color. It will not be able to lighten your hair, only darken it, but depending on the kinds of colors you've been using it may be able to blend your roots a bit.

Making Your Hair Grow Faster

So sorry, but no matter what you do that is just not going to happen! Hair only grows an average of one half inch a month for almost everyone and "absolutely nothing" you do is going to change that. I was a hairstylist for 35 years and, out of hundreds of regular clients over those years, I only knew three whose hair grew close to even three fourths of an inch a month. (08/12/2010)

Making Your Hair Grow Faster

My own experience with this has been activity, along with Dollar General brand of Hair/Skin/Nails multi-vitamins, zinc, and Biotin supplements!

I had thin weak hair that grew slower than it does now, although when I'm sitting at the computer a lot, weeks on end, or inside too much, it grows less than I'd like. Otherwise, my new growth really takes off in the sun and with my gardening and cleaning routine. Indoor exercises will help hair to grow as well, I'd almost forgotten. Age and diet are important. Prescriptions can cause a stand-still in growth.

A well-balanced diet with plenty of organic veggies, and water daily makes a big difference for me. Hope it works for you! I'm low income, so you should be able to afford it for a time.

I take 30-50 mg of Nature's Way Zinc chelate, Vit. D3 2,000 international units (Rexall brand from Dollar General when on sale), and Bluebonnet Brand of Biotin 5000 mcg (not mg!).

Some folks claim that an egg each day will make hair stronger and grow, so I will try that soon, in addition. Any of these alone won't do much, but together, the plan is making an impact in my life, and should help you. God bless you. (08/15/2010)

Making Your Hair Grow Faster

I'd like to clarify what lyndagayle mentions here. Exercise and good eating habits indeed make the body function more efficiently in all aspects including for skin, nails, bones and internal organs, but it will only keep one tip top and healthy and not make hair or nails grow any faster than is genetically predisposed.

The reason for hair growing faster at some times rather than others is due to metabolism and/or overall health. When sedentary, metabolism slows down which slows down blood and oxygen supply which naturally slows down growth of hair and nails. Also, hair and nails are a dead appendage so anything you put on the hair itself is not going to make it grow faster. Okay, that's it for my physiology lesson for today. ;-) (08/18/2010)

It's according to what type of hair you have to whether brushing it will help it grow. If it's curly or tends to frizz you will only break it by brushing a lot. Getting it trimmed every 3 to 4 months will help. Every couple of weeks use a different shampoo, just once then go back to your regular. Always condition your hair. Yes, a little sun each day could not hurt. BioZinc Soloray brand is what I buy. It will work well, combined with horsetail root herb and any kind of decent exercise, from walking around house most of the day/very few rests, to stair climbing.

I personally have good luck with henna hair coloring, but it takes a whole day to process, is staining/has an odor of wet alfalfa mixed with coffee and rancid tea, which lingers
but creates the oddest and best natural coloring when mixed with red/black henna powders almost equally. Don't try this yourself, but find a stylist who specializes in henna applications. I cannot understand why it helps weak thinning hair to be thicker and more healthy looking, as well as leaves streaks and various shimmering colors like a child's hair. It takes me about 12 hours to get the color I want. Adding the essential oils is truly essential to be able to tolerate the odor. And NOT washing the henna out right too well on the first day, not setting
or blow drying hair, but rather letting it "linger" like a pot simmering on low heat, for an additional day seems to be one of the secrets to make it last longer.

I really love the color of mixed dark strawberry blonde (normal color is lots of mixed grey
and medium brown). It's also very important to use an average shampoo, but a clarifying shampoo should it need to be striped out/down a notch. I've been using it for about a year now.

I had thinning, slow growing hair, but once I resumed working in the garden/and in sun, I now have normal thickness and faster growing hair. Each person's hair, body chemistry, habits, metabolism and ethnicity has a great bearing on how it should be applied to achieve the best color. It's not so easily predictable, but if you can remain more flexible, trust God to both help it to grow and to give a better color to it, should you decide/need to color it for added strength, important to keep what one has from falling out before it gets long. Multivitamins/minerals are critical to good health and strong hair growth in this day/time of too few nutrients replaced in the soils. Good luck and God bless you. (10/01/2006)

Mixing a few egg yokes, honey, and a spoon of olive oil makes hair in better condition and gives you length. But as a hairstylist, I would not recommend that you wash your hair on daily basis no matter what you are trying to achieve. Shampoo dries out your hair people! So this goes out to a few people who mentioned that they wash their hair everyday with shampoo, but only condition it every other day. I recommend the opposite, or if you find your hair still being oily if you only rinse it. Just use conditioner then, wash and shampoo your hair every other day.

If your hair doesn't get as dirty and lathers fast, then shampoo your hair only once. Do squeeze the water out of your hair and do leave the conditioner as directed on the back. (04/30/2008)

Most of these things will only damage your hair or cause flaking. The best thing to do is get a deep condition every two weeks and a roller set to avoid styling your hair every day with heating appliances. (11/22/2008)

Massaging the scalp daily for at least five minutes also helps. I do this and my hair grows three inches every month. (12/26/2008)

The holistic doctor I worked for and other people say that it's really minerals, not so much the vitamins, that you need to get enough of for your hair and nails to grow. A great source for them is in unrefined good salt. I have some Himalayan and Hawaiian pink salt that is packed with minerals and tastes yummy. I sprinkle it on salads and veggies and pasta and rice and whatever. (12/29/2008)

I'm a boy and I have short hair, lets say 5 inches. Can somebody please tell me how I can grow my hair longer, like at lease 3-6 inches longer before the beginning of October? Please and thank you.
