My mower does start, but when I engage forward or reverse it stalls out.

Unplug the reverse switch and see whaT happens
Check to make sure you don't have a hornet or mouse or other kind of nest anywhere in the mower. This happened to a friend and when it (hers was hornets) was cleared, the mower worked fine!
If it is hornets...safety first...those suckers are MEAN!! Follow the instructions on the can to the T!
You might need a new battery. Also, are you remembering to close the choke when you put it in gear?
