These easy crocheted butterflies are easy enough for a beginner crocheter and can be used for many things. These would be wonderful for Mother's Day or a birthday. You could easily whip up a bunch of these to be used to decorate Mother's Day presents or to hang in a window or make them into napkin rings.
Made in thread and attaching a pin back and they also could be used for a pin or the center of a corsage. They also could be glued to a branch for a centerpiece or glued to a wreath with spring flowers for a beautiful one of a kind spring wreath. They also can be used as refrigerator magnets. The best part is they only use up that scrap yarn that you have leftover from other projects. You only have to know two basic stitches to make them, chain stitch and double crochet cluster stitch.
Time to make: about a half hour
- scrap yarn
- G crochet hook
- iridescent pipe cleaners
- Chain 8 join to form circle.
- Chain 3 double crochet twice chain one 3 double crochet chain one until you have eight cluster stitches. Join.
- Chain 3 double crochet twice more chain 2 and in same space double crochet three more times. ( like the corner of a granny square) continue around until you are back where you started 3 double crochet chain 2 to complete.
- Fold in half and wrap the center with the iridescent pipe cleaner. Starting on the outside edge of your butterfly slip stitch to attach and chain 3 slip stitch chain 3 slip stitch evenly around the outside edge.
