I love making these cute little gift boxes because they use things you'd otherwise throw away, cardboard tubes and leftover gift wrap.

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 1 gift box

  • cardboard tube from toilet paper or kitchen towels
  • wrapping papers scraps
  • scissors
  • glue
  • paintbrush, optional
  • clothespin, optional
  • ribbon

  1. Trim your wrapping paper so it's just big enough to cover the cardboard tube.
  2. Add very thin drops of glue (or brush on) onto tube and apply gift wrap.
  3. After glue has dried, take one end of the tube, apply glue inside, then seal shut. Secure by holding it shut or using a clothespin. Let dry.
  4. To make it a bit fancier, affix a scrap of contrasting gift wrapping paper over the first. Insert gift into finished cardboard tube then glue shut. Tie with ribbon.

For small gifts that are difficult to wrap, you can use a cardboard tube as a gift box. You will find these tubes at the middle of rolls of toilet tissue, kitchen paper rolls, rolls of wrapping paper, and sometimes cooking foil and cling film.

  • 1 cardboard tube
  • gift wrap paper
  • long length of wide ribbon
  • glue stick, glue dots or double sided sticky tape

  1. Choose your tube. Remember thick sturdy tubes will give better protection to your gift, but thinner flimsier ones are easier to work with.
  2. Cut a length of tube to fit your gift with a couple of inches extra at each end.
  3. Trim off any jagged bits.
  4. Squash it a little flatter so that it is now more oval than round then check your gift still fits.
  5. Press in on each side at one end.
  6. Insert the gift into the tube then press the sides in on the other end to enclose the gift.
  7. Cut a strip of gift wrap to fit the width of your box.
  8. Wrap it around and secure with a glue stick, sticky dot, or double sided tape.
  9. Tie up in a bow.
