Kid's Frog Trinket Box - open frog box with a message lying next to itYou can make this cute little trinket box for your child using egg cartons. They can store little precious things they like, such as rocks, beads, coins, etc.

However, actually this is our "positive frog" where I'll put special notes for the kids each to check and we'll read together in the morning.

Total Time: 20 minutes + drying time

Supplies:

  • paint + paint brush
  • egg cartons
  • scissors
  • tape
  • construction paper
  • googly eyes
  • hot glue
  • paper
  • pen/gel pens

Steps:

  1. Cut two pieces of the egg carton out and paint them green. Allow to dry. Once dried use scissors to cut off the excess carton.
  2. Kid's Frog Trinket Box - cut out two sections from an egg carton, paint green and allow to dry, then trim off excess

  3. Using construction paper - cut out a zig zag from yellow paper for the crown and a long strip (red) rounded on one end for the frog's tongue.
  4. Kid's Frog Trinket Box - cut a strip with a zig zag on one side for the crown and a rounded red strip for the tongue

  5. Roll the crown, ensure it fits over the top of the carton and secure with tape. Then, wrap red paper over a pen to resemble the tongue of your frog.
  6. Kid's Frog Trinket Box - roll the crown, check fit and then tape and then wrap the red strip around a pen to create the tongue

  7. Hot glue googly eyes in place. Underneath the top carton piece, tape the tongue into place.
  8. Kid's Frog Trinket Box - add eyes and tape the tongue in place from underneath the top carton piece

  9. Cut small rectangle shaped paper strips and write meaningful phrases. Ex: I love you. Have a great day. You are so special. Then fold up the messages.
  10. Kid's Frog Trinket Box - cut small rectangles from paper to write your messages, fold them up

  11. Hot glue the crown in place. Place note(s) inside.
  12. Kid's Frog Trinket Box - hand holding the finished frog
