Microfiber coating is coming off back of couch where head rests. Called manufacturer and will do nothing about it although has only been used about 2 years although purchased 5 years ago. All repairs I see are for tears. Not the case here. When tried to gently clean with plain water, more came off. Unable to upload pictures. Suggestions?

I sincerely doubt that any company would do anything about a 5-year-old couch, but did you ask about how to clean this and stop the erosion of your couch?
I have never heard of 'Microfiber coating coming off' of anything, but from your description, it apparently can happen.
I would tend to think this is happening due to oils from hair as well as the constant rubbing against the same spots.
Perhaps some gentle rubbing of alcohol with a soft brush or sponge or washcloth would help.
"Fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spray it directly on the stains and armrests, which can get particularly dirty. Blot and rub the spots with a white cloth until the stains are gone."
