Minion Reading Pointers

When learning to read, children lose their place frequently. In the classroom, the teacher usually has students use their index finger to point to each word as it is being read. But sometimes kids become restless doing this every time. When the boredom ensues, it's time to break out fun reading pointers, like these Minion wands. Children can make them easily with only a few items. Or they could be used as a reward for meeting a reading goal. These can also be used to help children learn to space in between words as they are writing, if you use smaller Popsicle sticks.

Total Time: 10 minutes to make and a couple hours to dry

Yield: 3 minion pointers

Source: Pinterest

Supplies:

Steps:

  1. Paint approximately one-half of each Popsicle/craft stick blue, back and front. I chose yellow sticks so I wouldn't need yellow paint. Allow to dry. Add additional coats if needed.
  2. On the top of the yellow half, hot glue 1-2 eyes on each pointer. Use a black permanent marker to add the hair, glasses/head strap, and mouth. Look up the Minion characters for ideas!
