No More Messy Bathroom Shelf

No More Messy Bathroom Shelf - finished bathroom counter makeoverI will be honest, I did this so my cat Connor would have more room in the morning to sit on the bathroom counter. There, I said it!

But it was also nice to have things up off the counters. While I have done this before and posted it, I thought you might like to see this one, too.

Total Time: 1 hour

Supplies:

No More Messy Bathroom Shelf - board

Steps:

  1. I will admit I didn't have a lot of step or supply photos. I never planned to post this, but I can fill in the blanks anyway. I measured and cut the board at 42"
  2. No More Messy Bathroom Shelf - cut board

  3. I cleared out the stuff and cleaned. Then I found the two perfect jars to split the difference and clear the faucet and the medicine cabinet door. I didn't plan to have the wood exposed, so I didn't sand it.
  4. Then I realized no one was going to have to handle the board, so I left it alone. Once the board was up, I grabbed some "props" in doilies and added as I found them.
  5. No More Messy Bathroom Shelf - board supported by two glass jars

No More Messy Bathroom Shelf - lilac colored dollies, one on each end of the board

  6. I found a third in a white, and thought about trying to find some that were green, but I have used them all so this would have to do.
  7. No More Messy Bathroom Shelf - white doily in the center

  8. Using the things I already had, I filled in the shelf, and moved the 3-drawer shelf over to the other side. Now he has more room. This last photo is an older one of him sitting where he didn't have much room. This will give you an idea of what it looked like.

You are always so creative about making space. Shelves have been my favorite way to organize since my children were little.

Thanks. The cool things about these shelves I do is that you more than likely have what you need right at home.

Yes, he loves the room. And I don't have to keep picking things up what he knocks over! Thanks it did come out nice and enhances the room.

Thanks Sandi - your ideas always remind me of how often we 'hide' things in drawers because of the 'clutter' and then - never use them or even have the opportunity to admire the items we have accumulated.

This is so simple and yet elegant for those who can take the time to just stand still and admire.
Just in case there is someone looking that does not have a hacksaw they can usually find an 'odd' piece of board at Lowe's or Home Depot. Just measure the size you'll need, length and width, and someone will usually cut an odd board to the size you need.
I have found some beautiful boards, cut to the size I needed, just by asking. The cost is usually minimal as these were really 'throw away' pieces.

You are right. I got my hacksaw at my local thrift store's "man cave" for 3.00, as the dollar tree ones will break almost at once. But yes, I even go to my local hardware store and they will even cut PVC pipes for me. Customer service isn't dead, although it seems like it's in a coma sometimes.

Thanks for the lovely compliment. I have more Ah Ha' moments than I can count.
