My Shih Tzu is 5 months old and has been really good with potty training and crate training, but for two days straight in the morning he has pooped inside of his crate. There have been no new changes.

The first thing I would do is take the puppy to the vet and check for any illness or infection.
Any time there are changes in habits (poop, pee, or eating), our kid goes to the vet for a quick look over. Dogs are creatures of habit and 9 times out of 10, if there is no new stresser, a change in pooping is a health issue. Hopefully it will be something a minor has he got into something he should not have or had a little too much people food or if your area is really hot, he could be having a reaction to the heat.
