I was riding the bus and my friend told me that there was gum on my jacket. When I got home I told my mom to wash my jacket and she did, but the gum didn't come out. What should I do about it? Thanks.

Put peanut butter on it and then wash. I have tried this and it worked very well. Don't put the item in the dryer until you see if there is an oil mark, and if so just treat as usual.
Is it okay to wait a full 24 one day to 3 days? So like 1-3 days before doing it or will the gum dry out and peanut butter then washing it in the washing machine method won't solve it and have to use a different method?
You might be able to find a product these that will get it out and be safe on your jacket. Maybe a variation of Goo-Gone. Check your hardware store.
The other way is to stick your jacket in the freeze or ice the gum until it hardens THEN pick at it. Re-freeze and repeat until done. This might sound tedious but it's the way it's been done since gum was first chewed.
Put ice on the spot where the gum is and it will freeze it and make it easier for you to peel it off.
Try the freezer and/or ice method first (it really does work well) but if the jacket was washed in hot water and/or placed in the dryer the gum residue might have permanently seeped into the fabric. Call a couple of dry cleaners, explain what happened and ask them if they know of a way/product that might remove it.
Also, I hope you "asked" and didn't "tell" your mom to wash it because she's not your slave. And if you're older than about ten years old you're old enough to learn how to and do your own laundry. By that age I was doing the washing and ironing for the entire family every Saturday and that was in the day before permanent press fabrics where even the pillow cases and table linens needed to be ironed.
I might add, that in the future, do not wash something with gum on it. Gum pieces will break off and bond to the inside of the washer and the dryer, if used, and other clothing washed with it may be ruined too.
You should try being responsible and try looking up some ways to get it out cause your mom ain't gonna be there for you forever
