I have been saving this because we've been smelling skunk in the neighborhood lately and I'm sure one day one of my dogs will find it! You could probably spray a little of this in the air too. It's worth a try.

Skunk scent remover shampoo:

32 ounces hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid.

Mix ingredients together in large bottle with cap.
Use as shampoo on pets and children. Rinse well.

To the person who said to put a cap over the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, please heed this warning: NEVER, ever, store mixed solution in a closed bottle, sprayer, etc. Pressure will build up until the container bursts. This can cause severe injury.

Too much hydrogen peroxide and not enough baking soda. 1/4 cup (2 oz.) should be fine. You'll need 1 lb. baking soda. Mix the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap into a gallon of warm water.

Then bathe dog, swabbing liquid into fur and allowing to stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well.

Do not mix in a container with a lid. it will foam up and possibly explode

MIX IN AN OPEN CONTAINER! Do not put a cap or lid on the container its mixed in. This solution will explode if put in a closed container as it is unstable

I have heard tomatoe juice or sauce will remove the smell by neutralizing it. Good Luck.

I faithfully use this recipe: 1 gallon of warm water (comfortable temperature for the pooch), 1 whole box (1 lb.) Baking Soda, 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1 tsp. dish soap. Mix and slather completely on dog with a terry cloth allowing to stand for 5 minutes. Rinse well. Repeat if necessary (although should not be).

I've used this recipe for years and it works every time! You can always finish up with your favorite dog shampoo for softness and fragrance, but the skunk smell WILL be gone! You can let your dog in the house and on the bed after this treatment.
