Repairing the Back Stitch Button on Sewing Machine?

A few days ago my dogs accidentally knocked over my sewing machine which is a Brother and now the back stitch button is stiff. It won't push down easy any more.

Unscrew the cover and look at the place where the button is attached. The fall may have bent the connection, which you may be able to bend back in place, or broke it. In that case, you will need to service the machine.
