Question: Repairing a Singer 457 Stitch Regulator Lever?

Repairing a Singer 457 Stitch Regulator Lever - closeup of part As I try to sew, the regulator lever moves with the hand dial, and the stitch length changes. Any ideas how to fix it?

I think it is best if you download the service manual for your machine. Here is a PDF manual you can download. In the manual it shows you about this and how to adjust it. Here is your link.

Some repairs appear easy but doing them from a manual or even a video is not always so easy.

Perhaps you could pay a visit to your local Singer stores (department stores sell machines also) or just Google Singer with your zip code and find all local sellers. Many times there is a "machine" person working there that can give you some free instructions.

Also, try to locate a local sewing/quilting shop as they also have very good machine people and usually will help with something like this. Google sewing/quilting with your zip and see what is in your area.
Your local Sears repair shops will many times answer a question or even look at a machine for a small problem and not make it a charge item.
Usually the first step in fixing any sewing machine problem is to do a good cleaning. Follow the instructions in your manual.
