Robin's Thrifty Tips: Weekly Grocery Deals

It's so nice to see spring finally arriving around here. It does still get pretty cool overnight (40's), but the 60's and 70's during the day are sure great! Another way you can tell spring is here is that the deals are fresh produce are getting a little better! Our local Fareway store has some good fresh produce deals this week. They are as follows:

• Cantaloupe .69/lb.
• Red Delicious apples are .88/lb
• Bartlett pears are .99/lb.
• Romaine lettuce is .99/bag
• Baby carrots are .88/lb.
• Fresh whole pineapple are $2.88 each (This is a favorite of my husband and I so I will definitely be picking up one of these!)
• Seedless green grapes are .99/lb.

Some other good deals this week at Fareway are:

• Fastco (store brand) cottage cheese for $1.48/24oz. pkg.
• Fastco bran flakes or corn flakes are .99 per box
• Pillsbury brownie mixes are .88
• Fastco potato chips .99 per bag
• Cans of 9 Lives cat food are 5/$2
• Sara Lee Honey Wheat bread is $1.89 (This is our personal favorite bread)
• 2 litre bottles of Pepsi or Mountain Dew are 10/$10
• Banquet pot or fruit pies are 2/$1

Some good deals in the meat department are:

• Fresh, bulk, thick-sliced bacon for $2.49/lb.
• Pork steaks for $1.39/lb.
• Jumbo John Morrell hot dogs for .99/pkg.

As for our Hy-Vee store, they, too, have some great deals going on. They are as follows:

• Kraft macaroni and cheese .48/box
• 85% lean ground beef 1.88/lb.
• organic Granny Smith or Fuji apples are $1.28/lb. (Great price for organic!)
• Purex laundry detergent $1.99/24 or 32 load bottle
• Generic ketchup is .79/24oz. bottle
• Hy-Vee applesauce .88/23 or 24 oz. jar
• 15 count Hy-Vee spring water $1.99
• Tidy Cat Scoop cat litter is buy one, get one free when you buy one at $5.98
• Hy-Vee chocolate milk $1.68 for 1/2 gallon size
