Selling a 1971 Duncan Yo Yo Championship Trophy?

Selling a 1971 Duncan Yo Yo Championship TrophyI was the winner of the California State Duncan Yo Yo Championship in 1971. One of the items I was awarded for winning was this trophy. I am going to sell it. Does anyone know of buyers or collectors of this type of item that would like to purchase it from me?

I just check this site yoyo.collectionhero.com/.../gallery_listings.php?keyword=1971... and I have found out that a 2nd runner up trophy6 for the same championship tournament you were in was sold on eBay on Sept 2019 for $249. There is a market for this and people do love to collect YoYo trophies and other stuff from this time. You can try listing this one eBay and see if anyone is interested. You may be able to list this on a few other sites who specialize in these kinds of items. Check out the link I have given you and you can find out where they would suggest you to list this to get the best exposure.

I would have some interests. I won the State of Michigan championship in 1973. My trophy was stolen.

There is still a lot of interest in everything about the Yo Yo world but it may be difficult right now to generate enough interest to pay you what your trophy may be worth in better times.

I did find a lot of sites that sell the Yo Yo paraphernalia but not any that seem to be set up for individuals to sell their pieces. I'm sure some of these might buy your trophy but not for very much money.
The selling sites like Facebook Marketplace, LetGo, Offerup, even Craigslist (nationwide) could be places to try.
eBay and Amazon have the most traffic but if you list on either of these sites (especially eBay) you should not list it at the same time on other sites (against their 'rules').

Since this is a unique item you would just have to place a price that you feel you would sell it for. Do not set a smaller price with an auction on eBay hoping to get more money because that does not always happen and you have to sell for whatever is the ending bid.

Set your price and keep it listed for several months before reducing as this will not be easy to sell (usually - but auctions can be weird and the right person may see it the first week).

Is this your posting?

Sometimes there are sports shops in a local area that will let you display things like this (for sale) so maybe you might check out any in your area.

You can sell them on eBay, amazon, etsy, auction house, craig's list. There are many avenues to go through to sell. Also you could donate to a worthy cause!

I frequently sell unusual ephemera on eBay and from personal experience, I suggest running a 7 day, Sunday to Sunday auction, starting at the least you would take for it and letting the market dictate the final value.

Before you list, take 12 amazing photos in a clean background. If there are any flaws or marks take close up photos and spell out the issue clearly and tell them which photo to reference.

Have a box big enough to have 3-4 inches around the piece after it is wrapped in multiple layers of thick bubble wrap. Pour packing peanuts in the bottom of the box 4 inches deep, set the item wrapped in all the bubble wrap in and peanut fill the rest of the box.

Weigh the box and measure. Use the advanced seller tool so you can enter the box size, and weight. While you may get more selling to all countries, if you are not an experienced seller and shipper, mark your sale for your country only.

Foreign sales can be a challenge for even experienced seller because buyers are often a challenge and get upset if they have to pay customs. Some will ask you to commit fraud and say it is a gift.

The market for cool ephemera like this is very uncertain in a Covid market. Perhaps hold onto it for a few months until things settle.

If you are not an experienced eBay seller, use the time to gain some confidence by selling small, not expensive items. That will get you eBay street cred if you don't already have it and may help you get more for this item when the market rebounds!

Post back with an update! Neat item!! I sold my Duncan yoyos about 5 years ago. They were well loved and didn't fetch much, sadly. I did love them tho! Fun memories!!

Thank you very much for your insight and taking the time to share. I figure I've had the trophy for almost 50 years. I guess I can hold on to it until the market wakes up again. Once again, thank you.
