Social Security for Dependent Child?

If my son's father receives Social Security, can I draw something for my son? I don't get child support for him because they can't touch his Social Security check. So can I draw something for him?

Hi - Have you checked with the Social Security office? They are the only people who can give you the correct answer.

If ex-hubby is getting SS Disability - each child gets 1/2 of what he gets. Example: he gets $1600 month - then each kid gets $800. The money comes from SS - it does not reduce ex-hubby's amount. It is intended to work as child-support to help the kids but it does not come out of his check. Hope this helps. Hope he helps you with it - it'd help his kids and not cost him anything! But you can do it on your own (just harder).

I have no idea about "normal" (over 70 yrs old) SS.
