Strawberry Shortcut Cake

So easy and good! Great for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. strawberry gelatin
  • 2 1/2 cups mini white marshmallows
  • Ad

  • 1 pkg. yellow or white cake mix
  • 2 (10 oz.) pkgs. frozen strawberries

Directions:

Spread marshmallows evenly over bottom of 9x13 inch oiled pan. Prepare cake mix as directed and pour over marshmallows. Mix the thawed strawberries with the gelatin, spoon evenly over the cake mix. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-60 minutes or until cake is done. The marshmallows come to the top and the strawberries are on the bottom.

You can also make this using any pie filling; if you do, omit the gelatin.

Question: Do you mix the dry gelatin with the strawberries, or do you prepare it as if for a "set" gelatin? If prepared, all the way or partial? This recipe sounds quite interesting. When I have some kids around I just might try it.
