Tied Out Dog Breaks Collar?

Tied Out Dog Breaks CollarI have a 2.5 yr old 90 pound Lab Pit mix. He's neutered and gets along with everyone. Our issue is our yard isn't fenced and if another dog comes in the yard he pulls so hard he snaps his collar. I am terrified he's going to choke himself or get out and get hit. What type of collar or harness can I use?

What a sweet face!!! Gotta love him!!

My suggestion is based on experience with a small dog...but it worked (and still works) for us. Because we have other dogs in the neighborhood with less than seller parents who let them roam AND and worse, buzzards and large birds that prey on small dogs, I just never let my kids out in the yard without me being there...and always on a short leash where I have as much control is as possible.

This was the safest way for us to protect them. That may not be possible for your situation, but it was the only way in my neighborhood.

There are break away collars and such....but I was always terrified that my fur child would break out and then would run into the street and get hit by a car (we are on a busy street).

Safety first with the fur kids in my world....and this was the choice we thought long and hard about, but made. It is NOT convenient sometimes...I can honestly say that, but we learned to make it work.

Good luck. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Personally, I would never tie or chain a dog in the yard. If you cannot keep the dog inside, you should purchase a chain link dog pen. They come in all sizes.

Chaining a dog is always risky. Many dogs cannot handle it mentally. Many dog owners consider it cruelty. If you can find another way to keep your dog, I would do it. If you can fence your yard, that would be ideal. If not that, a large pen with a doghouse (you will need to clean it daily) Can you keep your dog in the house with you?

This seems to be the best answer for most dog owners. Perhaps some training so he behaves well in the house. I would like to tell you there is a safe and responsible way to chain your dog outside, but I can't.

Tethering a dog is against the law in many states as part of their anti-cruelty chapters. You need to find a pen of some sort to house your dog, or keep him in your house with you and leash him when going outside to potty. Someone might report you if they see the dog at the end of his tether trying to reach another dog and near choking himself to do so, you do not want to lose your pet, so please get him a pen to live in, you will both be happier.

you should definitely go with some sort of harness, the kind that wraps around the front legs and both keeps their body gripped and releases pressure on the neck. Since he's a medium/large dog there's an easier chance of finding one that fits. He's very unlikely to get out of it

Please don't chain a dog up it can teach a dog to be aggressive as well ,and it won't be social.also the dog can jump over fence and hang himself,or tangle up and choke himself .just not an option I would ever choose.i used to be a dog trainer and too many sad stories.
