Tissue Case with Pocket

I learned how to make tissue case covers years ago from my mother. This one is a little different from the ones she used to make because it has a pocket on one side to hold chapstick, hand sanitizer, or a small bottle of lotion. These are great to have in your purse when you need extra supplies. It's a good way to use up those extra scraps you may having lying around plus they make a quick gift. They are easy enough for the beginning seamstress to make.

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 1

  1. Using pattern pieces, cut out the three rectangles from coordinating fabric scraps and iron. On the pocket piece, turn one long top edge under twice and press with iron.
  2. Hem along ironed edge of pocket piece. You may add trim to top of pocket if desired.
  3. Pin and sew pocket piece to smaller rectangle along the short sides as shown, wrong side of pocket to right side of smaller rectangle. Make a small tuck in center of pocket piece, pin, and sew across the bottom of the two pieces.

  5. With right sides together, place largest rectangle to right side of pocket piece.
Pin and sew along the short sides. Turn right side out and press. Because the larger rectangle is larger than the next size rectangle, there will be some bulk. This will actually produce a side "trim" when completed. Iron flat so "trim" shows.
  6. Fold short sides inward meeting at the center. Pin and sew across top and bottom. Turn right side out. Insert tissue into opening and add lotion, chapstick, or hand sanitizer into the pocket.
