Using Blue Dawn Dish Soap?

Blue Dawn dishwasher soap is recommended in all the helpful hints I read, but is there really a difference between the blue and the other colors of Dawn?

I only use the blue simple (original) Dawn and have for years. I use it for dishes and laundry.

For clothing..the others kinds have weird scents that stick to the clothing when I use it for stain removal. The x power ones remove stains just fine, but it takes multiple rinses to get rid of the soap residue

For dishes the scents also make me sneeze. I hate using the x power one on dishes for the same reason as I won't use it on clothing. It takes multiple rinses to get it off the plates/glasses. We don't have a dishwasher so ease is critical to the process.

I have tried all the other brands and always go back to the Dawn. I have to stock up when they have coupons in the paper since it is pricey and I have to watch my budget.

I get mine at the Dollar Tree for the 12.6 oz. size. The smaller ones are the concentrated kind. Now that might not be a savings if you want the larger sized ones, but I like how light the smaller ones are. Since I put mine in a kitchen pump I need something easy to handle.

I usually buy the larger size when on sale. Sometimes (not always) it is cheaper per ounce that way. But I use to refill my smaller bottles.

I have read they are all the same and work the same, but the others have added scents.

In my opinion it is stronger and removes grease better.

I have seen a few comments over the years about the blue Dawn staining clothing so that would be one concern. I think the blue one is recommended because it is the original.

I think this is a very interesting question as "blue" or original Dawn is recommended quite often for all types of jobs, and especially for killing fleas.

  • Most "claims" state that the only difference is the fragrance and the blue is supposed to be fragrance free.
  • I agree with Jess that I have seen items that blue Dawn caused a "new" spot when used as a spot remover but I think it had to do with the type of material and its possible that any type cleaner may have made a new spot. What type material?
  • Here is a site that has the history of P&G Dawn but it is a lengthy read (but interesting). From what I am reading, the Original Dawn hasn't been produced for many years.
