Can I administer the diatomaceous earth on ice cream, other than in his food, to my dog to cure tapeworms?

Yes, it should be okay so mix the correct amount of (food grade DE only) DE with the ice cream and try to be sure he cleans it up or give smaller amounts in 2 doses.

As long as the ice cream agrees with him it should be fine.

so when i first read this question i was really alarmed because i was under the impression that eating DE was toxic and dangerous, since it can be so toxic and dangerous to breathe in (silicosis).

But apparently they sell 'food grade' DE and you can actually eat it

" Many people eat a quarter cup of food grade diatomaceous earth every day. They mix it into juice. I have visited with several people that are keen on living past 100 years that believe that eating lots diatomaceous earth every day will help them with that goal. I have found references where it is cited for colon cleansing, parasite control and detox."

"Food-grade diatomaceous earth is different from the diatomaceous earth that is used for pesticides. Do not ingest pesticide-grade diatomaceous earth or use it on your skin because it contains harmful chemicals." www.livestrong.com/.../

but of course there are ppl who warn against it: "I cant rule out the possibility that it might work for some indications, but without proper controlled clinical studies we have no way of knowing.

I cant prove that it doesnt work or that it is unsafe, but in my opinion there is no credible basis for recommending dietary supplementation with diatomaceous earth. Taking it would amount to offering yourself as a guinea pig in an uncontrolled experiment and sandpapering your intestines with an industrial abrasive on the strength of testimonials. Ill pass."

i would say start out very slowly because there is a chance you can overwhelm the dog's digestive system.

Carnivores in general have less need for fiber/roughage in their diet so I would worry abaout overtaxing his large intestines.

before trying DE i would personally try other natural methods like raw pumpkin seeds. More seen here www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/.../
