Value Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia Set?

I have a set of 1993 Funk & Wagnalls American Eng Assiniboine Encyclopedias. They are in excellent condition. How much would they be worth?

Many people have old books they think are valuable and would like to sell. Most old dictionaries, references etc., have very little value, a few dollars at most. Encyclopedias dated after 1923 are essentially worthless but crafters may be interested for the old pictures. Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., receive donations of tons of old encyclopedias, dictionaries and reference books but send them to recycling centers or dumps as they cannot use or sell them.
You can check online for old book collectors, on EBay, Craigs List and other retail sites for possibilities. Everything is now online and updated constantly so old books are just that-old.

Abebooks, a book selling site, lists these, per volume, at $3

so if it's a 10 book series, you could expect $30 for the set. It looks like it's a 29 volume though so you do the math.

Amazon lists this collection of books at $494 (Affiliate Link)

I see a lot of folks grossly discounting the value of books and grossly undervaluing what folks are willing to pay for them. Believe it or not, there are still people who value books and encyclopedic collections for their own worth. I should know because I am both a book collector and have been a book seller.

Granted it really is one in a million customers who come around wanting to purchase these, but they do exist. It does not make sense to throw them in the rubbish heap if they are in pristine condition.

If you really want to get 'your $'s worth' for them, you could list them on the internet, and wait years. Or you could donate them to Goodwill or some other organization and take the $400 tax write-off.

I have a brand new set of Funk and Wagnall encylopedias and index but cannot determine when they were purchased - I believe it was in the early 1970s - where do I look to find out? B. Walker

You're better off donating them for the tax write-off and making room for something else. Unless you are in a major city to find a buyer for the 100 or so dollars they may fetch, the shipping charges would be outrageous!

Most of these encyclopedias, even those in perfect condition and in a complete set, are worth very little. The information gets outdated quickly, and with the advent of the internet, there is no need for these books anymore.

You would be better off financially taking the tax donation.
