What Breed Is My Dog?

closeupMy husband and I brought our Bodhi home when he was just 7 weeks old. He's now 18 months and weighs almost 70 lbs. According to our friend that we got him from, Bodhi's mom is a Lab/Boxer/Mastiff mix. That's what our friend was told when he got her. She is a little bit taller than Bodhi and does have a slightly larger, blockier head so I can almost see the Mastiff in her. I'm really not sure though. We've got no clue as to the breed of the father. So we've got our Bodhi, our beautiful, loving little Lab/Boxer/something mixed pup and honestly, I'm just so curious. I've seriously considered doing a DNA test, but we can't afford the expense at the moment, solely to squash my curiosity.

So I'm wondering what you guys see? A good friend of mine swears that Bodhi has a breed of Pit Bull in him. And I see it too with the googling that I've done. I definitely see the Black Labrador in his looks and demeanor and we're pretty certain about the Boxer too, not only in looks, but because he boxes with us! :) He uses his paws more than most dogs I've seen when he's playing.

He's so sweet, so friendly, has so much character, super intelligent, loving, great with other dogs, my cat, friend's children, and for the most part great with people in general. The one issue that we've been having with him is his crazy barking at anyone new that comes to our house or passes us! Mainly adult males. A dog's normal response, of course, he's being protective. It's never really aggressive and he does calm down pretty quickly, but he sure scares the crap out of people and it can be extremely frustrating for me because it's the only time he doesn't obey right away. I'm having trouble training him on that one.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blabbering! :) Looking forward to people's thoughts and opinions on the breed of my Bodhi boy and maybe any training suggestions on how to reduce the barking at strangers thing a little bit, or at least how to get him to stop when I say so!

I can definitely see the lab and the boxer in him. Not so much the Mastiff but that doesn't mean its not there. You said he weighs upwards of 70 lbs so thats a good indication of a Mastiff. To me I would say he looks closest to a lab/boxer in this photo. He sure is beautiful.
