What Is This Houseplant?

thin new plants growing from dead stalkI recently acquired this jade plant from my sister-in-law. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed some stems growing from a dead stalk. She said it was a housewarming gift and that there were other plants in the planter with the jade, but can not remember what they were. Any ideas?

On a jade plant, in a small area, using your fingernail, gently scrape the paper like stem of the plant, where you think it's dead. If you see a green hue starting to show, stop scraping, the stem is alive, you can leave it be. If no green shows no matter how far you scrape, the stem is indeed dead. No fear tho, jade plant can easily be started by pulling the dead rootball & the plant out of the soil. Snap off the live part of the plant, toss the dead out. Take the live part, remove the lower leaves and stick the part of the leaf that was on the stem into the soil, not very far, maybe 1/2", each leaf will start a new plant. Use the end of a wood spoon and push the handle end into the soil about 1/3 of the depth of the tip of the plant you snapped off & removed the leaves from and put it in the wood spoon hole. Plant too long? Break it in half.

:-) The question wasn't about the jade plant. The writer wants to ID the OTHER plant that is growing in the pot...and I want to ID it, too. I have the same plant, but don't know what is it.

It grows fast and leggy and seems to drink water like a fish. I'm hoping if I can get it ID'd I can take better care of it. Thanks.

Found it. It's a China Doll plant. A little too finicky for my tastes, but nice if you can get it to grow right (if you have the right conditions).

You're right, it *is* a China Doll. Hmm...not sure I have the patience for it, but I'll repot it and see how it goes (grows? Lol)
Nice work! Thanks so much!

In this photo and question request, I believe this person was not trying to identify the jade plant as she called it that herself in the post. There are three photos showing the thin and jagged leafed plant which also appeared to grow from an unearthed root lying along the bottom of the dish. I would like to know what type of plant is in the 3 photos myself as that plant has really been challenging me.

Some of the leaves dry up to a crisp and fall off while others just drop off without being dried out at all. These two occur simultaneously--supple leaves dropping off and dehydrated crispy leaves--all in same day. I have been unable to find a happy medium to satisfy this leafy green tree-patterned growth plant. Can you help me, please. I need help soon as some part of it dies off daily....
