It actually looks a bit like a female garter snake laying eggs.

Eastern Garter Snake-the head appears different ("pointed") because the snake is frightened, rears back, widens its head, etc., to appear more threatening (certainly works for me!). It will bite but is not venomous and the teeth are all one size, no fangs. From my husband the biologist.
