Cheap Tree Guard?

Category Fruit Trees

Is there a good, cheap way to protect my little fruit trees from gnawing pests this winter? The tree wraps I find are all too pricey.

Hardware cloth is cheap and effective. It's also labor intensive, which is why it's cheap. :-) A 10-foot roll of 3-foot wide hardware cloth will cost about $30.
