Supplies:

  • material
  • sewing machine
  • 1 metre of ribbon
  • strong card

Instructions:

  1. Cut 5 squares of card, for this box I used 5" squares, but you can make them any size you wish. I tend to do a set of 3 boxes in graduating sizes.

  2. Cut material into a cross shape allowing 1/4" seam allowance. Plaid fabric cut into a plus sign shape

  3. Cut ribbon into 8 equal lengths and tuck inside the 2 pieces of material, with the long end inside. Ribbons pinned to plaid fabric

  4. Sew around all sides leaving one side open.

  5. Turn piece out ensuring corners are pushed out.

  6. Insert a piece of card into each square and then close gap with small stitches. Cardboard being put into fabric sleave

What a wonderful idea! Love them! yep, I'm going to do it too, thank you for this idea :) I was thinking about putting up a shelving unit and didn't want the things I put on it (like papers, mail).

This unit will be a addition to my desk but also will sit in my living room, so I'll be storing things on it also. How nice will it be and look with my very own baskets made of cloths that matches my decor. You have given to me my fall project, thank you! Maybe I'll change the material for Christmas and other holidays! Wow, love your idea! Thank you so much & have a great day too!

This is a wonderful idea! I just had a "Why didn't I think of that moment". The possibilities are endless as to fabric choices and places to use these. Thank you so much!

Great idea! I too had a "why didn't I think of that" moment! lol. If I may add a touch more? I would quilt the fabric with batting for a more sturdy "basket". Also, use fabric stiffener.
