Maybe this tip has been given before, but I think it's great, so I'm putting it out there. If you have things that are special to you because they were made by someone important to you, like knitted items or kids school projects, snap a photo of it and file it in a special album. Much less space required and you haven't quite let go!

Good plan. If it's something you choose to keep, put the info on a flash drive and let a friend keep it. I have a complete house inventory at a friends should there be a fire. I can find out what survived and what needs to be claimed.
