I also do this with larger projects. With smaller projects, I will use baggies with the zip top closures.

Sorry I'm a little late, about 10 years, but lol,I signed up now and i really want to share my ideas!
This one comes from the 60s and early 70s when it wasn't unusual to see furniture covered in clear plastic to keep couches & chairs like new. These are perfect for covering anything you want to protect from human hands:

new plant? put it in there!
*toaster? safe! *(never store a toaster away while still hot)
new boots? KEEP THEM LOOKING LIKE NEW 8D
yep, right in the zipper bag!
I could go on and on but the caffeine and corticosteroids are wearing off.
