Homemade Catalina Salad Dressing

I love the Catalina dressing, but when it went from a 24 oz bottle to a 16 oz bottle, with a price increase, I stopped buying it. I found a recipes on the web for a copy cat and tweaked it a little to suit my needs. The first time I served it to my husband, I wondered if he would like it as well. I didn't have to wonder long, he loves it.

I agree that 1 cup of Splenda or sugar seems excessive. Most other recipes online use about half the amount of sugar. Although Splenda is lighter than sugar, it is manufactured to be identical in sweetness per volume. So 1 cup of Splenda is equal to 1 cup of sugar in sweetness, adn that's more than any other recipe.

Also, Splenda is expensive - about $5.50 per box. So using Splenda is hardly thrifty, which is the goal of this website. It's cheaper to just buy a bottle of Catalina dressing.

Can you use regular sugar? The splenda and the other ones hurt my stomach.

Catalina is a very sweet dressing and is full of sugar. So I don't believe the 1 cup of Splenda is a mistake. I haven't been eating this dressing since being diagnosed with Diabetes. You can buy ketchup without corn syrup or you can make your ketchup too! I miss this and plan to make it! Thanks!

1 cup of Splenda? That's equal to 1 cup of sugar in sweetness, which means about half of the ingredients by volume is devoted to sweetness. Don't forget that the catsup is already full of sugar (corn syrup) and very sweet.

If the Splenda is not an error, wouldn't this recipe be too sweet for most taste?
