My, just about two years old, washing machine has just died on me! It is running and stopping, but doesn't spin or get the water out. Only when I force by using a button it does the specific action but again, not for too long. Shall I throw it and buy a new one or is there a way to replace the computer within?

Have you tried cleaning the drain? Look at your manual for the location and instructions. The drain flap should be at the front, on the lower part of the machine. Sometimes a coin or something gets stuck there and prevents the spinning. It's very easy to clean.
Now sure I understand about the button thing but I do know that my washing machine won't spin if I have the lid open.
My machine quit spinning fast. It gets to six minutes left in a cycle and then shuts off. I got error code 47. The guide said for that error code to replace the door lock. I replaced the door lock right away and it worked one time and then had the same problem. The next thing the guide said was to replace the main control board. I waited nearly a month for the part then put it in. I thought that fixed the problem. The machine worked just fine and spun for 4 loads and then experienced the same problem again.
I think maybe it's the belt? I think the belt maybe is stretched and then it shrinks a little when the machine is not used for a while. I think since the machine was not used for over a month this time it shrunk enough to do several loads before stretching out again.
I just put the machine into test mode while empty and no errors came up. I loaded my machine with wet clothes put it in test mode and it spun for a bit, but shook a lot and then threw error 55 "under speed". The tests for that involve the motor, bearings, and motor control board. I'm still thinking it might just be a loose belt as there were no errors when I ran the test mode with the machine empty and the machine did spin just fine for 4 loads after I replaced the main board before it stopped working again.
Machine is a Crosely (Frigidaire) cfw47000LWO (that is the letter O on the end).
A belt is inexpensive. I would try that. Make sure your loads are balanced
I have an Estate heavy duty washer and it will not spin with a large or even medium load. Small loads without towels will spin just fine.
What should I look for to be the problem?
Most likely the clutch is going out.
My 2000 KitchenAid washer will not spin the last cycle to remove all the water!

I got the same problem yesterday night. My washing mashine didn't spin the water. In the morning I opened the small door on the front of the mashine, in the right down corner. It was not easy, but finally opened. After I twisted the cap and pull out a very, very stinking and disgusting black thing. Bleah!
At first I thought I finished, but after I checked inside with a flashlight, and saw, there is some more of this disgusting black stuff. I pushed inside a fork and got it out. In the same time ALL THE WATER came out to the floor. So I think the water couldnt leave, because the filter was totally full.
Now I am testing it and hope it was the only problem. I hope I could help you guys! Have a nice day!
How do you know if it's the lid switch not working or spin filter clogged? Washer dial stops after water goes in, but is spinning some. Washer is not full of water when stopped, but enough water to not allow clothes to go into dryer. I then manually start agitation and sometimes have to do it twice to get all the water out. How do I unclog the spin filter if it's that?
