Rewiring an Older Sewing Machine

My sewing machine is so old that the wires are showing the copper threads (can see them from the motor). Is it possible that it can be rewired or else, what? I love that Goodhousekeeper machine and feel bad about throwing it away. Its serial number is JA23 LG33. Can anyone tell me how old is it and if I hold a chance of prolonging its life? I have a new Singer, but sorry to say, I love the former one best.
Thank you.
