Butter Pound Cake

Ingredients and Directions
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 sticks margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 6 eggs

Mix the sugar, margarine (or butter) and 1/2 cup crisco together with a mixer and cream together. Then mix in the 6 eggs one at a time.

To these add:

  • 1 cup milk, alternately, with
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

WHICH YOU HAVE SIFTED TOGETHER 4 TIMES!

Add:

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract.

Bake in a tube pan at 325 degrees for 90 minutes.

This is a WONDERFUL Pound Cake recipe passed down from my Sister-in-law's Mother.

Joyce,I am so sorry but when I submitted this recipe I DID omit 6 eggs which you add one at a time to the sugar,Crisco and margarine mix.Please do try it again. This is REALLY a good cake.

I made this cake yesterday and it was the biggest mess you ever saw, it never did bake right, it spewed all over my oven it rose like a souffle and then just dropped, my neighbor nearly died laughing, I make cakes and pies all the time I am 65 years old She also said it should have had eggs in. it is or was this an oversight. This was my first attempt at pound cake.
