There was a really bad odor from my kitchen and I couldn't find out where it was from. Until one day, I found out that I had some rotten onion inside the cupboard, under the stove.

The rotten onion was pretty disgusting, some liquid came out and it had a very intense odor. I immediately cleaned that up, wiped the inside of the cupboard with different types of detergent and cleaning fluid. I thought it was cleaned, but the smell stays.

I think some of the liquid from those rotten onions seeped through the wood, and that's why the smell stays.

Please give me some advice on how to get rid of that odor. Every time I opened the door of that cupboard, I felt that I was going to throw-up.

You need to get an oxygen based cleaner. It's natural & it will kill any odor, even in wood.

First of all, don't store any fresh or raw veggies or fruits in the cabinet "under the stove". Also, when you do put these products in a cabinet (I usually do under my kitchen sink, no where near the stove). Always put them in a bowl, in case they do get yucky, there's no mess to wipe up, other than washing the bowl out. Putting the veggies where you had them under the stove will only cause them to ripen or reach their prime faster than if kept in a cool, dark cabinet.

You could try putting a few charcoal briquets on the spot that smells, I know this works in a refrigerator freezer, our electricty went off and I had some meat to go go bad and someone told me about the charcoal, maybe this will work for you. I would like to know if it works for you.

Try using some vinegar to wash it with, leaving some in the wood (not wiping it totally dry). If that doesnt' work, try sealing the wood with varnish, top and bottom side.
