Problems with USPS Mail Delivery?

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 205 Posts

Where can I call and/or write about my mail not being delivered as it is addressed? Even though my street address is the " address on the envelope"? The mail lady still insists on putting all my mail in my P.O. box.

I don't want to put in a "cover-all" change of address to the Post Office because of just this problem. I changed my address at one place that I get mail from at least twice a week. The only address on the envelope is my street address, the P.O. box address is not on the envelope at all. But since she knows who I am she sticks it in the P.O. box anyway.

I have called the regional office and complained to no avail. If someone can tell me who I can call about this problem I'd appreciate it. I don't want to put a cover all change of address in that will affect my important things (bills, taxes, pay statements, etc) until I can get this straightened out.

This is because we have had many problems with mail delivery here over the last 12 years and I don't want to possibly lose my tax info like we did when we first opened the P.O. box because, of them not delivering it as it was addressed. Isn't it a federal law that mail must be delivered "as addressed"?

Have you gone into the post office where the lady works and talked to her, and perhaps bring a letter with you stating what you want and ask what you are supposed to do to GET what you want? And make sure a carbon copy goes to the supervisor and advise them you will send a carbon copy to the regional supervisor if necessary, although you would rather not have to have gone to any of this trouble, but you are determined to see it through to get results as close as possible to what you have requested that also meets their requirements. I am sure you can have it both ways, as my father had that arrangement years ago. If not, have it all go to your house and that's more work for the postal worker, and unfortunately, less fees for them, ie your box fee.

You need to contact the main US office, look it up by their website. I had a problem locally 2 yrs ago, and got no results from complaining locally.

When I posted a complaint on the national website, I got a call from the postmaster at our local office 4 hours later!

I am not sure why you want both addresses. But the person that is doing this, thinks they are doing you a favor. You need to decide where you want your mail to go, house or PO Box. And put a change of address in at the Post Office. If it is to your house then close your PO box, if it is to the PO box then, once you put in the change, tie the lid or door to your mailbox closed.

I do wish people would read all the way through someone's question before trying to answer.

As I stated in my question: This is because we have had many problems with mail delivery here over the last 12 years and I don't want to possibly lose my tax info like we did when we first opened the P.O. box because, of them not delivering it as it was addressed. Isn't it a federal law that mail must be delivered "as addressed"?

When we first opened this p.o. box it was because we had a terrible problem here of kids stealing people's mail out of their mailboxes. Plus I was traveling a lot in those days too, so it was easier and safer to have a p.o. box than to have it coming to the house and getting stolen. The problem was the carrier insisted on putting everything in our box regardless, even if I had told the p.o. that I would not be home. We had a lot of problems with not getting our mail, and this included bills, and even our W-2's at the end of the year. It took us 3 years to get it all straight.

I do not want to go through that again, so I am doing my change one item at a time. This way if something doesn't get delivered right, then I know which piece of mail it is and can work with the p.o. and that one company. Plus I'm doing the less important things first, the things that won't hurt us financially if we don't receive it on time, to make sure they get delivered right before I go switching over the important things.

And it is possible to have 2 different addresses----a pot office box and a street address. Whether you've got one, two or fifteen addresses, your mail is required by federal law to be delivered to the address on the envelope. And it is not the business of the post office why you want more than one address. It is simply their job to deliver the mail to the address that is on the envelope.

First I would go and talk with the postmaster general that may or may not be located in your town. and find out the policy on delivering mail to both a postal box and and street address. I believe if you have both of these addresses in the same town they will only deliver to the post office box number.

I have a post office box in one city and a home address in another city for the same reasons you had explained in your post. I recieve mail at both addresses with no difficulties.

I wish people would make their questions more clear . Also reread it before you post it. You can get lost in some mumble jumble that is written here.

You can buy mail boxes that can be locked and can't be opened without a key. Perhaps if you bought one of those, you wouldn't have to worry about your mail being stolen. You could then close the post office box, and then the letter carrier would have no choice but deliver the mail to you directly. Good luck!

Try contacting your congressman. They are paid to represent you not only in Congress, but with agencies.

Write a letter to the Postmaster of your ZIP and explain that you've had an ongoing problem over--years, and have complained before.

Make it short, and clear--something to the effect that you have specific mail coming to the home address, and other mail to the PO Box, and that while the carrier may believe she's performing a courtesy for you, she's interfering with time-sensitive financial material addressed to the house when she delivers to the PO box--and you'd like that practice stopped immediately--so you don't have to take your cause to Regional.

Hello, Is it possible that when you originally opened your post office box you checked a "box" to have all mail delivered to your box? This question is on the form along with your street address. (Law requires that you have a street address listed and verified in case law enforcement needs to find you).

The local office can put "note" above your post office box that only mail with the box number goes in that box and also a note on the carrier's case that mail addressed to that street address is to be delivered as addressed.

You can right this in a letter but it would be best if you delivered it to the local postmaster or branch manager. It may also help if this is "nice" visit as I have also found (in my 74 yrs., that you can get better results with sugar rather than vinegar.)

You can always go higher if this does not work.
I believe most federal laws about mail service has to do with privacy rather than delivery. Local offices many times deliver as their patrons request.

Don't pay the box fee next time it's due! Sounds like you have lazy postal workers.

I am a postal worker, call 1-800-275-8777, customer relations, they are like bulldogs. They will contact the local postmaster and he/she will have to fix the issue. This method almost always works to get things corrected, because the post master will be the one responsible and they will have to answer back and be accountable. Hope it helps you.. I care very much about getting customers mail to them at the correct address, some carriers do not, which is very unfortunate.
