I'm a cabbage lover, so I really enjoy this casserole. I think anyone who likes cabbage will love this recipe. Very good!
Ingredients:
4 cups cabbage, chopped
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/4 cup water
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp. lemon rind, grated
1 lb. hamburger
1 cup onion, minced
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. salt
sliced or grated cheese, of your choice
Directions:
Place cabbage in greased casserole dish. Add salt, pepper, and water. Cover and place in oven at 375 degrees F while preparing remaining ingredients. Mix bread crumbs, milk, and lemon rind, beating well with fork. Combine crumb mixture with hamburger, onion, egg, and seasonings.
Form into a mold the size of casserole and place on cabbage. Return to oven and bake, uncovered, until meat is browned. Place cheese on meat; return to oven until melted. Buttered crumbs may be placed on cheese, if desired. Total baking time is about 30 minutes.
