Does anyone know what can be used to get rid of Ladybugs? I am especially interested in something that does not involve chemicals since we have a 2 year old in the house.

@Bud Z -- I just downloaded the Joe Barton report before coming here. It looks like a repackaging of freely available information, and (as I discovered only after buying and reading it) it's published by Barton Publishing, a potential Internet scam operation.

Hi
I live in northern Wisconsin. I have been in my new house for four years. I started getting the lady bugs three years ago and they keep getting worst. Has anyone downloaded Joe Barton's book on how to get rid of lady bugs, and had any kind of luck with his imformation?

They seem to like heat, which means they get into the heat vents as well. So, spray there as well.

I'll have to try the Bugstop from Wal-Mart. I just moved from WI to TX and I've never had to deal with a Lady Bug problem until now. These things are driving me nuts! I see them mostly in my living room quarters on the window sills or in between the window blinds. I have to get these thing out of my house. I sure hope the Bugstop does the trick.

I too have a major problem with lady bugs. They hang around in my living room. I have tried several things (one of the most recent placing bay leaves in my window seal which don't work). I think I am allergic to them. In the evenings at my house is when they stir the most. I have noticed that as they are out more that I begin sneezing. My nose gets stopped up. My eyes, ears and roof of my mouth starts itching.

So I did some research and I found one site that had claimed that lady bug allergies were possible. One common pest allergen is a cockroach. The allergen skin tests that are done test common things like mold, pollen, cockroaches, etc. This information I found claimed that although the lady bugs or Asian beetles were not related to the cockroach family they did have the same type of protein that is responsible for the allergic reaction these lady bugs put off. If I get bit by them the spot that gets bit itches and swells for several days.

Even though these bugs are suppose to help the outside environment they are causing me a great deal of trouble. I am glad I have read these posts. I will try the walmart bug stuff and I hope it works. Thanks

Hi, I live in Wisconsin and we have a major ladybug problem! I have been killing tons but they just keep coming back! I love my home but not when there is thousands of ladybugs. I just really want to know how they keep coming back. I looked everywhere for them and I found them, then killed them, but then a while later, they come back! If anyone knows how to get rid of them please just comment me on this website! Thank you so much!

UGH! Moved to an older home in central Iowa recently and for the last two weeks these things have been driving me INSANE! They are only in my kitchen (my windows face the sun in the afternoon) and no matter how many you kill, they just come back in droves! They bite, they smell and of course my husband doesn't do a thing about it, so the task of keeping them out is left to me. I think I will try that BugStop. Thanks for the suggestions!

I am so glad to read the comments on this web site. We live south of St. Louis, in a light colored home that is only two years old. We had an infestation last fall and it is happening again. I hate them and they stink. I am going to purchase the suggested products and cross my fingers. Thanks for the info.

I'm not talking about a few hundred bugs. I'm talking about literally thousands if not tens of thousands of bugs. Several hundred on a window at a time. There are 4 windows in our camp and by the time you get done vacuuming the last window the first one looks like you never tried. I will try the Bug Stop and the Pro Zap strips. Thanks for the suggestions. BTW as someone mentioned, these are not ladybugs, they are an Asian beetle introduced to eat some kind of aphid that was infesting the forests. Problem is that nothing will eat these smelly pests. But if you really want them bring a big freakin' truck and you might be ale to haul them all. We filled up shop vac to the top no less than 6 times from Friday to Monday.

I just got these strips yesterday - "Pro Zap" and hung one in the attic, 2nd floor bathroom and kitchen since those were my worse areas - 100's of lady bugs and when I got up this morning I had to start vacuuming up all the dead lady bugs. I got mine at our local feed store but I'm sure that hardware stores and probably walmart would have them. I have 2 dogs and didn't want anything that might harm them and this is working great. PS pine sol and lemon scented Mr. Clean doesn't work.

For the last two months now they have both had a stuffy/runny nose! And after reading some other peoples concerns I realize that the ladybugs may be the cause!

I live in a really old house and they come down from the ceiling. Can someone please email me with any suggestions on how I can permanently get rid of these buggers!

I tried the Bugstop from Walmart and it does really work. I sprayed around my windows and have not seen anymore. I live in Connecticut and my kids were getting bit by these things all the time. The ladybugs were everywhere. I have 2 kids under 2 and I was always afraid they were going to put them in their mouths. Thanks for all the advise.

I am tired of them dive bombing me everytime I want to sit at my computer (especially at night)they land on my head, arms and neck and yes they do bite and it does hurt. I am reading all the posts and just cracking up at all the stories posted because I feel everyones frustration. I will try the BUG STOP at Wal Mart and pray that it works!

So this bugstop really works? We live in Western PA and our house is always crawling sometimes worse than others. I now think my 11 month old son is allergic to the scent they put off when I vacuum them. Has anyone else noticed allergy symptoms such as runny nose and sneezing after vacuuming these little buggers? Note: I know it could be dust mites too, we are looking at all options.

We had a lot of ladybugs this year. They would be in my daughter's bed and pillow case. They would always be around the kitchen light, which is above the table so they would be on the table. Darn things would be on your clothes or in your hair. I was so sick of ladybugs everywhere! Thank God I found this website and read where Walmart has this stuff called "Bugstop". Its in a clear gallon jug with a sprayer attached. It is safe to spray indoors or outdoors. I sprayed inside around all my windows. We went for a ride and came back an hour later and WOW I couldn't believe all the dead ladybugs! I sprayed 2 months ago and I might see 1 or 2. If they come out on the window sill they die very soon. I am so happy I have Bugstop!

We are in the process of remodeling our home & I suppose that has stirred them up? Who knows, all I know is that i have had more than my fill & am on my way to the store to stock up on hot shot, bug stop, lemon cleaner, candles. I'll try anything! I'm so glad I found this page--THANK YOU to all who have posted.

For those that feel that we should not be trying to get rid of the ladybugs are clearly not affected. I have them in my master bathroom and just going in there creeps me out. I keep the vacuum in the bathroom now. I thought that they were coming in under the jacuzzi tub and sealed around it with silicone caulk but tons are still coming in. I caulked the window above the jacuzzi and still more getting in.

I then thought they were coming from behind the mirror which faces an exterior wall so I caulked around the mirror still more are getting in. These things are driving me crazy and if anyone has had success eliminating them please drop me an email. I don't like to kill bugs or animals of any kind as long as you stay in your environment but when you come into my home your tail is mine.

Need help fast. Thanks, Veedub3

I was having a ladybug infestation problem at our camp, I was telling my brother about the ladybug problem and he solved my problem with ladybugs, he came to my camp Saturday morning with a case nof cheap beer and 15 feet of flexible tubing.....My brother backed his pickup truck to one of the windows and duct taped one end of the flexible tubing to his exhaust and put the other end into the window and sealed the window with duct tape.....We closed all the doors and let his truck idle for about two hours while we drank the case of cheap beer he brought, when we finished the case he shut off his truck and we aired the camp out for a few minutes and found thousands of dead ladybugs, hundreds of dead spiders and five dead mice and a dead squirrel......since his truck burns a little oil all we had to do was wipe the oily residue off everything and vacum and pickup the dead critters.....

I live in Alabama and it is beautiful weather but you can not enjoy it! I walked down stairs to the kitchen and looked up and there were about 200 ladybugs in our kitchen. Ew. So I was sitting down on the couch and looking out the back sliding glass door and you could see them just flying around. So me and my bro went outside and they were swarming our house. So after he left me and my sister-in-law (who is 9 mths prego and cautious about chemicals) started pondering the problem and I read on here about the lemony stuff. So then my little lightbulb blinked on and I thought HEY WE HAVE SOME MR CLEAN LEMON CLEANER! So then I put a good bit of that in a squirt bottle and filled the rest of the bottle up with hot water. So we vacuumed up the ones in the house then went to town spraying the creases of our doors and windows. And we sprayed the outside of the doors so it is helping a great amount on keeping them out of the house.

So go to Wal-Mart and get some Mr. Clean Anti-Bacterial Lemon Scented cleaner. It is a few dollars nothing much.

Hey I am 17 and hate ladybugs! They are a pain in the rump!

If you have anything else you could tell me that helps or need to ask me something about it email me at wehsflutegurl2005 AT yahoo DOT com

In the picture below you can see the ladybugs around the door. And that was taken on a cellphone and you could even see them with a CELLPHONE camera.

I live near the Kansas/Oklahoma border, and I've liked lady bugs all of my life. But this year? I couldn't believe my eyes. Friday they were SWARMING. As soon as the car door was opened, in they came. They were all over the top of the car, the windshield, everywhere.

I had no idea that they 'swarmed, and no reason before, to even THINK about it!

Saturday, we had an early Thanksgiving dinner since my step-grandson was home on leave from Iraq. The temperature was in the 70s, so the crowd spilled out unto the deck. No lady bugs! They seemed to have left, as quickly as they had shown up. Also interesting, was the fact that we have had about 3 frosts and one actual freeze with ice on the water, prior to this 'warm' spell. I would have thought that those might have driven the little buggers inside, for the winter, but evidently not.
I had my house repainted in August...a light (pale) yellow, and dark chocolate trim and shutters. Do you think that might have 'attracted' them? Fortunately, I did not have them move inside with me. Since I live in the country and have 3 acres, with 50 chickens, some ducks and some geese, I am surprised that they were brave enough to 'stop' in here.

I also wonder if this doesn't have something to do with 'climate change' since I had NEVER noticed this during my entire 72 years, let alone in November!

Earlier this summer, I had horse flies that swarmed here daily, for over a month. I like a cup of coffee on the front porch as day is breaking. Those things were SO noisy, that I first thought they were BEES of some kind. As soon as the sun came up, they would fly out of the trees by the house, and then spend the day 'attacking' cars that came and went. My neighbor lady told me that she was hauling them HOME from MY HOUSE, but trying to bring them all back each time she came to visit, as this was the first place she saw them.

Oh well, could have been worse...what if? Killer Bees! YIKES!

People just vaccum the stupid annoying things up it makes everything all better and then maybe they will all die and leave you alone. Just put the vaccum away when you are done or they will crawl out.

Go to Walmart and get Bug Stop. It is safe to use inside and outside your home. It kills them within a couple of hours. BEWARE, last year when I did it for the first time, I didn't know I had so many. Vacuum, vacuum. The lemon scented candles also work great. I haven't had the problem this year.

We recently moved into a new house and all of a sudden we have been infested by ladybirds! I went outside and saw a lot of black (red spotted) ladybird. I then found 5 in the kitchen and 2 in the front room. I also found a few in the hallway, in the bathroom and my bedroom.
I don't really like killing them so HOW are you ment to get rid of them. I've never really hated ladybugs untill now. They're not as cute after you've seen about 20 in your house!

Don't be ridiculous, Mr. Shrimpp. These people don't want to eradicate ladybugs from the entire planet, they just don't want them inside their homes in hordes. There are millions of insects, animals, birds, even reptiles that are good for our ecosystems, but that we don't want to HABITATE with us inside our homes. Would you want hundreds of garden snakes slithering around inside your house??

For those still having problems, I found the link below helpful and educational. Good luck!

Try to burn them. That usually does the trick and destroys the smell before it starts. Of course, it is time consuming.

We moved into this house in January out in the country. Our son had been mentioning that he was getting bit by mosquitoes. Well that cant be because they arent out yet. Then I found out that ladybugs can bite. he has the brunt of them in his room. His room gets the most daylight since it is on the east side of the house. We have a few in our bathroom as the window faces the south. Last week we did some carpet cleaning and washed the walls with some bleach water. It stopped a few, but now we are also looking at ways to stop them for good. I am going to pick up some of that bug stop from Walmart. But if anyone has any other ideas on how to finish them off or prevent anymore from getting in, please email me at wyldkat603 AT yahoo.com
Thanks

I'm glad I found this website. I've had more than an abundance of ladybugs in my house for over 3 years. This year is by far the worst. I bet I vacuum about 100/day. Multiply that by 365 days of the year...that's a lot of bugs. They bite, they stink and they just keep coming....my vacuum has a permanent spot in the livingroom now. And the bag has to be changed OFTEN because it will stink too. But, the BEST part is that I know have allergies to them. Thanks to this website...I've finally won that argument with my husband who didn't believe me that I could be allergic to these creatures. Anyway, I thank you all for your input...I'm off to find Bug Stop, Hotshot Bug Strips, Revenge Bug Strips and Tempo Spray and we'll see what works.....cheers!

Why won't the stupid ladybugs go away? I used to like them until they invaded my home in about 2000-ish. We were able to get rid of them after two or three years, just by using a fly swatter. Or so we thought they were gone. But now it's 2007 and I just found another ladybug. How quickly do they reproduce!? and where are they hiding? I have silicon to seal off the window area but it would be pointless if they're already in the house, right? So, what can I use to totally rid of them? I heard from several articles that insecticides don't work too well...

Most of the houses in Ohio are light-colored, so that may not mean much," said Kovach. "But it's possible that the dark-colored roof with a light-colored house may simulate vegetation of a hill or tree line, which is what the insects are truly targeting."

I just bought a new home on a corner lot that has lots of big windows facing south & south-west. A few weeks ago, I noticed about 3 dozen ladybugs in 3 rooms on the 2nd floor. Almost everyday now, I find about this many ladybugs which I just 'zap' with my central vac (then leave the hose plugged in to be sure they don't make their way back through the hose). The problem is...they aren't going away. Mostly they hang around the bigs windows, but now I'm noticing them crawling on the walls & floors and also inside the 'globes' that cover the hallway light fixtures (could this be a clue as to where they are coming in from?). Interesting to note...the 3 bedrooms they are in all have a 'trap door' to the 'attic' - I'm almost afraid to even look up there now - not really an attic but probably where the insulation is. I'm really upset about this because I certainly was NOT expecting BUGS in my new home! Lots of people like them, but to me, a bug is bug. Calling it a 'Ladybug' still makes it a bug & I don't want to share my home with ANY bugs. We have very cold winters here in Ontario and after much research on the net, I found they actually HIBERNATE in homes! Oh joy! If anyone has any tried & true methods of getting rid of them once and for all (and I don't care if it means KILLING them - that would be a good sight), please write me at: impinspired @ yahoo.com (delete spaces). I have a 3 storey home & it won't be easy sealing off all the holes, crevices, etc on the exterior, but I will have it done. Right now, my children are afraid to sleep in their new rooms because of the the #%@ bugs. As for the Bay Leaves...does it have to be the fresh kind or is dried okay? I'm also going to try mint leaves & mint extract added to a spray bottle of water. I heard that all bugs hate mint - I hope so. I have young children and pets so I'm nervous about using pesticides although I will go to that extreme to get rid of these disgusting bugs. Thanks to anyone who can help.

HI,
I have the perfect house that those rotten lady bugs love, its brand new, all white washed tongue an grove wood throughout the entire house, light colored siding and trim, most windows face the south, so when the suns up its nice and warm in the windows. Today I can come home early, 70 degree's out, and millions of those *&#@* bugs!!!!! I spent hours online doing homework to rid my life of the bugs. I will stand behind the people that say the Bug Stop from Wal-Mart works!!!!! Its great stuff!!! And the lemon candles work as well. But after I spent hours vaccuuming them I used this spray I have from Melaluca called Sol-U-Gard. I sprayed my windows with it and the bugs hate it. Its a disenfectant, germ killing miracle spray. It also smells somewhat lemony. After about 5 hours of spraying and vaccuuming Im only left with a handleful right now. Im sure they will try to come back next warm day. But I will be ready!!

I have so many ladybugs! Its so frustrating! I'm going to try the incense and candle suggestion but if that doesn't work then i suggest to anybody to make a day where you just try to kill all the ladybugs by swatting them. It might almost help a person get their anger out. That would be my last resort though so try all you can until you have to get violent with these stupid things. :D

I moved into my house 2 years ago and have noticed thousands of ladybugs also. I have had them all winter which is rare for anything to be living in the winter here in cornwall, ontario, canada, since our winter's are extremely cold. I need a solution to get rid of them that is not harmful in any way to humans since I have a 7 month old baby. we also have flies and these little black bugs with red stripes on the top, if anyone knows what these bugs are please let me know, they are also all over everything especially in my daughter's room and they get on to the beds and everything. please if anyone knows a safe solution to getting rid of the bugs I am all ears. almost everyone I know has these ladybugs in there homes it is a huge problem here. e-mail me at crazy_momma 2005 (at) hotmail (dot)com (remove spaces), if you have a solution to this problem. thanks very much

having them in the house is one thing, but i live in a dorm room the size of a shoebox. the ladybugs are slowly taking over, and i am about ready to start sleeping in the hall. i cant spray, or fill cracks, or burn candles, or use strips to kill them, because of the size of my room. help!!! if i dont get rid of these $@#%*! bugs, i am going to have a fit.

I had ladybugs like mad in our new home. I went into the hardware one day and told them I wished I could find something for ladybugs. They told me Revenge Bug Strips... Two days after I put them up, I was finding dead bugs all over. Within a week I wasn't even finding them. These strips really stink, but they work like crazy. No more lady bugs. Mine only lasted about 2 months, but I didn't mind buying them again, they really work. I got them at the Local True Value Hardware.
I am sure they are available in other lawn and garden stores also.
Hope this helps you.

I am sure im in agreement with alot of people when I say this but as far as Im concerned the heck with these darn ladybugs, asian lady beetles....whatever you wanna call them..I call them a PAIN IN THE A$$....contrary to poular beliefs sucking them up in a shopvac works for the ones you can see. releasing them back outside is redundant. That would just be like going to the supermarket buying a watermelon cutting it open taking the seeds out and then bringing it back calling it defective. So far i havent tried the "bug stop spray" approach but i can assure you this im going to...and as for our Government who introduced these darn things...well that just goes to show you that ONCE again our Government SCREWED up AGAIN.....I hope to God Pres. Bush and any other Govt. people have these darn things in thier million dollar homes and are annoyed by them as we the people are. I could care less weather they eat aphids(spelling) or whatever....see ing as how most stuff is imported anyhow.. oh well im done "venting" now.....hopefully ill be ladybug free in the next couple weeks.....

I have no idea really on how to get rid of lady bugs in your house. Gee whiz ... I never realized they could be such a problem. I definately can recommend the Bug Stop from Wal-Mart. I used it at a friend's house who had gotten fleas inside and Bug Stop took them and a few other undesirable crittes out after one treatment.

As for outdoors - I would say leave them alone if at all possible. They eat lots of nasty outdoor bugs like aphids. They may be a mess inside your house, but if you have plants or veggies outside - ladybugs are some of your very bestest friends.

Hi...I recently noticed bug bites on my back and stomach. I had no idea what they were from. Then, a couple of days later I noticed a larva crawling around...actually found two of them. A day after that I saw 2 ladybugs in my bedroom and then 3 more on the front porch. I was wondering if the ladybugs could have been what was feeding on me! What do the ladybug bites look like?

We get them really bad! Yes they do bite and iT HURTS! I went to walmart and bought a gallon jug of BUG STOP , it worked!! I just sprayed it around my windows and doors on the outside and they will avoid my house completly. I came home one day and my 5 year old looked up and started crying he was scared we had about 200 ladybugs crawling all over the celing and walls. I got out the vacum cleaner sucked them up, then headed straight to walmart. My granny will spray insdie around her windows and door as well as outside but I have a small kid and didn't want to subject him to it. I know it's not natural but it does work and gets rid of them immedently. it's called bug stop it comes in a clear gallon jug with a sprayer attached. hope this helps try it.

Hose down the outside of your house to get them off there...inside, vacuum every hour or so & especially just before you go to sleep...they will sleep too until dawn.

We now have an abundance of ladybugs covering the outside of our house and unfortunately, they come inside when we do. I think I counted 20 on our kitchen ceiling alone. I don't think lady bugs harm anything, but I do not want them in my house. Any ideas on how to get rid of them. I know they will disappear once it freezes, but who knows how long that will be?

Thanks!

Does the mulberry candle really work? It may not be my favorite scent, but if there is something as easy as burning a candle, I'll certainly try it! I have sprayed the outside of the house, windows, siding, etc with several different things. The last being Home Defense by Ortho, I think it helps, but the problem being most are hibernating under the siding and still get in the house one way or another. I also have box elder bugs along with the asian beetles, let's just say we have quite the colorful decorations with these pests! We've tried the tempo, soap water and many other products. Ace Hardware sells the Home Defense and it has it right on the bottle, even kills asian beetles. Meanwhile, I'll just go on to my 100th time I vacumned today.....can't see these beetles are doing us any good living in my siding or attic?

I posted on 3/31/05 that I sprayed my attic, basement and some of my rooms with a bug bomb......Hip....Hip....Hooray!!!!! It worked, I have no lady bugs where I sprayed....the rooms I didn't spray still have them so I know this works. What I used is Spectracide Bug Stop. I bought mine at Walmart for around $7.99 for 6 small cans. I put 3 cans in my attic, 3 in the basement and one in each of the rooms where I had the most problems. It has been 5 days and no ladybugs in those rooms. I think spraying the attic was what worked the best. I put the cans close to the outside walls so it would filter down through the walls as much as possible. You can not believe how relieved I am. I was about to blow this place up. Come fall when they start comming in again.....I am going to spray every couple of days....Take that Lady bugs.....

I can't deal with vacuming any longer, I would be doing it 24-7. I wish someone would come up with a way to get rid of them, I have tried everything.....nothing works, I may kill some but for every one I kill 50 takes its place.............HELP

I have tried everything. Mulberry candles do not work!!! I tried the Tempo stuff, didn't do a thing. I tried the soapy water on the outside of the house....nope, they still are there. I have a dark brown house and you would like it was white with the millions of them I have inside my house. I wake up in the morning, go to the bathroom and step on hundreds of them. I get into the shower and they are on the bottom of the tub. These things are such a pain. If anyone has a "full proof" method, please pass it on.

I too have a very, very bad ladybug problem. I have tried leaving bay leaves on the window sills and this only reduced the population a little. I live in Northern VT where the winters are very cold. The D&^*( things have been worse this year than ever. We have hundreds of them coming in our office and bedroom. IT IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. We vaccum twice a week and sometimes more depending on how bad they are. They do bite, poop, and get into everything. It is embrassing to have company over for they appear every day. I was hoping the cold would kill them off, but to no avail. IF ANYONE HAS A FOOL-PROOF SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT aslsmm@surfglobal.net

Prevention is the most effective step in managing lady beetles. Check the outside of your home for spaces and cracks that may allow insects easy entry. Make any necessary repairs by the end of September.

Install tight-fitting door sweeps or thresholds at the base of all exterior entry doors. Gaps of 1/16 inch or more will permit entry of insects. Seal openings where pipes and wires enter the foundation and siding, for instance, around outdoor faucets, receptacles, gas meters, clothes dryer vents, and telephone/cable TV wires. Holes can be plugged with caulk, cement, urethane expandable foam, steel wool, copper mesh, or other suitable construction sealant. Caulk around windows, doors, chimneys and fascia boards, etc. using a high quality silicone or acrylic latex caulk. Repair gaps and tears in window and door screens. Repair screens in roof and soffit vents, and in bathroom and kitchen fans. Keep siding, eaves and soffits in good repair, replacing damaged areas if necessary, to keep the exterior walls as insect-proof as possible.

Frequently spraying the beetles that have landed on the side of a house with soapy water will reduce the population considerably. Physical exclusion can be supplemented with a residual insecticide barrier. For insecticides to be effective, they must be applied before insects begin to enter buildings, which is early- to mid-October for multicolored Asian beetles. Be sure the product you intend to use is labeled for use on the exterior of buildings. You may wish to consider hiring a professional pest control service. They have the experience and access to residual insecticides to control lady beetles effectively.

Remove lady beetles found indoors with a broom or vacuum. Indoor insecticide sprays are of very limited benefit. Once lady beetles move into wall voids there is no practical control to prevent them from emerging later during winter or spring. The only control is to remove them as they are seen.

This product works good on asian beetles, which work in soybean fields eating aphids, until there is no more aphids then they want to migrate in the house. Your local hardware store or ari-center should carry this or can get it for you. This a very good product, its called Tempo, its a liquid you add to water and spray all around on your house on the bugs directly or indirectly does not matter, safe to spray inside your house also, will not harm pets or humans,it has a residual so one spraying lasts for a few weeks. It does work, only had a few this year the rest layed outside in piles dead. This product is also good for crickets and many other annoying bugs.

I moved into a new home with almond-colored vinyl siding three years ago. Ever since then the &%$#@& ladybugs have been vying for becoming the eighth biblical plague. Last month in the dead of cold NC winter I had to replace one section of siding and when I removed it from the house no less than 1,000 that were either living, hibernating or dead in the lower trough of the siding section. I constantly keep the vacuum hose connected in the dining room to conduct my daily "hunt" and it is getting worse. Last year it was only seasonal but now it is year-round. HELP!!!

We have lady bugs and they are a HUGE problem! Some people say that they are a slight problem, I disagree!!! They bite! They crap all over absolutely everything, looks like what a fly would leave behind, little black specks! They crawl on you when you sleep, get in open food, etc! When the weather is warm their are huge swarms, they land on you, are in your hair, on skin and bite, sometimes it is a pain to just go outside. If you step on them or kill them, they leave an orange stain on carpets, ceilings, walls, everything!!! They die everywhere and then they dry out and wings etc are everywhere and they don't kill hardly any mosquitos or other bugs that I've noticed!! The government released them and now they are way out of control, the goverment should be responsible for all the costs of getting them out homes all over the US!

Also, an insect that flys, crawls and craps all over everything and that there are millions of, has to pick up or ingest some bacteria/other harmful things that it leaves as excrement or transfers to other places.
I hate them!

I used to live in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and each October lady bugs swarmed in the millions. Our house was white and seemed to draw them worse than darker homes. Since we were just a few miles from the National Park, my husband spoke with a park ranger who recommended that we purchase a sprayer, fill it with liquid diswashing detergent, dilute it by about half and spray the outside of the house thoroughly, especially the side that received the afternoon sun, Since they are attracted to light, we sprayed everything that reflected the afternoon sun. We repeated the spraying on a regular basis and if it rained, we sprayed again. Nothing can get rid of them entirely but it sure did help.

I am in south central arkansas, and on Saturday, there were hordes of ladybugs...red and gold. Every inch of the outside or our house was covered with them. Of course, they landed on us when we were out, and we carried them in, plus many came in the door with us. By late afternoon there were hundreds on our living room ceiling. I vacuumed them off the ceiling 4 times between Saturday and Monday. I think I finally got most of them out of the house. I have never seen anything like it. My question is:
Where were they this summer when the aphids were eating my tomato plants?

I have a suggestion for eradicating the red or gold ladybugs, which works for me. I scatter bay leaves around, on window sills, any where they can sit. I do this yearly around this time and am not bothered by the pesky bugs. I don't know if they don't like the smell or what.

Here's some info about that other bug that resembles the ladybug except that it bites, or rather, tastes us:

The Asian lady beetle is considered a harmless nuisance.

Imported to the United States in the 1970s to combat aphids that were destroying Southern pecan trees, the Asian lady beetle started spreading west and north and arrived in Minnesota a few years ago.

As nuisance insects go, Asian lady beetles can be particularly irritating. They look like the common, mild-mannered ladybug, but they don`t act like it. They are bigger and bolder with a noticeable bite. Some homeowners complain that the insects stink, and if you don`t get rid of them right away they leave hard-to-remove black specks (guess what that is) on every surface of the house. Some Michigan residents in homes with large beetle numbers have reported allergic reactions, according to a news report.

In their defense, these aphid-eating insects are beneficial in the garden. Entomologists don`t recommend you try to control them outdoors, unless they congregate in huge numbers near entries to the home. In that case, contact an exterminator.

Indoors control consists of removing them by hand, broom or vacuum cleaner.

If Asian lady beetles are a problem indoors during late winter or early spring, you need to reduce the number that get into the wall cavities and voids in fall. Seal or repair any obvious spaces, holes or gaps around windows, doors, screens, overhangs, vents, siding and other areas around your home`s exterior. You will have to be thorough because the beetles don`t need a big space to enter.

I used to be happy when I saw lady bugs -- butttt-- after being flooded with them for several years and even in the winter in the house-- I learned to hate them. They STINK AND BITE. They were always out of reach, so I found a stick, dowl rod, yard stick anything long and made an 6-8 inch round of duct tape with the stickey side out stuck to the end and went around collecting them. I could finally reach all the ones I could see. Change the duct tape when needed. This year I've only seen a few but other years have really been bad. I live in Western Pennsylvania. Good luck.

Go to your local feed store, ours is country mark here and see if they have a product called Pest-Tabs. If they do mix with water and spray outside of doors windows etc with this spray also any cracks in the foundation this will get rid of them. If you have a white house you will have more of them then someone with another color house. We had a blue million on our house last year, and my husband went and got these and it is still killing them yet this year. And I don't care what anyone says these little suckers bit.
