Chemical Odor in Jeans?

I bought a pair of very lightweight Dockers jeans. The label says 98% cotton, 2% spandex. They were made in China. I have washed them at least 10 times, but cannot get rid of this terrible chemical odor. I have tried two different detergents, fabric softener, warm water, cold water, and hot water. Nothing helps.

I live in Florida so these jeans are the perfect weight, wrinkle free, and look nice. I just can't get past the odor. Anyone else ever have this problem and found a solution?

Have you tried either Downy or dryer sheets yet?
