Cleaning Ash From Porcelain Dolls?

I had a house fire in 2018 and my dolls got covered in ash. I sent them to someone to clean but she never did and returned them to me 3 weeks ago. My question is there any way of cleaning the ash off and how please?

I'm sorry but I do not believe we have enough information to safely answer your question.
The only information provided - porcelain/dolls - does not provide what type of dolls you are referring to.
Porcelain figurine dolls? No clothing.
Dolls with clothing such as collectible dolls: Such as these:

This is such a broad subject, it may be dangerous for anyone to provide cleaning instructions for unknown types of dolls.

You only mention 'ash' but what about smoke odor?

Have you considered the reason the cleaning person/company returned the dolls was because they could not figure out how to clean them?
I would try contacting them and ask why they returned them (unless you already know why).

This is a question for experts, but they will need a lot more information.
Such as answers to the above questions and several pictures.

Try contacting someone on this site, as these members know everything about cleaning dolls.

Cybergrannie is correct. We would need a lot more info to give you an accurate answer. Are you trying to remove stains or odor or both? What material is the doll's body? Are the clothes synthetic or cotton or wool?

You may need several different strategies to attempt to salvage them. I am sad for you that you are having this struggle. Prayers for you and yours!!

If your dolls have some cracks, consider taking them to a specialized repair store. Otherwise, you risk damaging your dolls.
If there are no cracks, you can try to clean them yourself, but work very carefully.

Remove your dolls's clothes and hair accessories and put them aside.
Doll clothes that are stained can be taken to the dry cleaner or clean at home.
Shake out the ash as much as possible. Don't wipe it with your hand or a rag. Wiping the ash will only spread it further or push it deeper into your clothing.

Turn the clothes inside out and flush the ash with cold water. Letting the cold water run through the stain should clear most of it away.
Use a laundry pre-treatment spray before washing. You can wash and tumble-dry doll clothing, just check the tag as you would your own clothing. Regular cycle laundry should leave the clothes ash-free. If any traces of the ash remain, don't dry the clothes. Moisten a rag with rubbing alcohol, and blot it onto the clothing. Switch to clean areas of the rag as you continue to blot out the stain until it's gone. Launder again to remove the rubbing alcohol from your clothing.

You can try mild dish soap or baby shampoo to clean the porcelain surface, but first run a test on a very small, hidden area (if this does not remove the paint). Damp cotton balls work great for the face and small areas.

You can try this to clean the porcelain face and body of your dolls:
Take white bread and remove the crust. Roll the bread into a ball and use this bread as an eraser on your porcelain doll - very gently rub the bread on the face and body of the doll. This will not damage the porcelain.

Try this to clean the hard to reach areas of the porcelain doll:
Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol into a dish, dip a cotton swab in the alcohol. Run a test on a very small, hidden area to make sure the paint stays intact. Use it to clean areas between your doll's toes and in the corners of the eyes, prevent water from seeping. Pat dry with a cotton towel. ourpastimes.com/minesweeper.html

You can remove the stains on your doll using gentle detergent diluted in water. A mix of baking soda and water can also be an option, but try it on the dolls hidden part first. Use a dry cloth to wipe the porcelain and a Q-tip to clean the dolls nose, ears, mouth, and other places that are hard to reach.

Never immerse the head of the doll entirely in water as this will peel off the mounting plaster, as well as the eyelashes and wax from the open/closed eyes.

When cleaning the hair, you have to use a damp cloth and avoid water as much as you can. If the wig gets too wet, it could ruin the glue and subsequently, your dolls hair.
