Cleaning Closet Wire Shelving?

I have been remodeling, and wanted to replace my closet shelving. Wow! what an expensive deal. Now I have to clean 25 year old dirt and/or grease on wire closet shelving. I removed them to clean and tried Scrubbing Bubbles, vinegar, and lime cleaner. Nothing. They are too big to soak in the tub. Any suggestions?

Try this and see if it works for you.
Mix up a solution of 3 parts water and 1 part ammonia in a spray bottle.
Take the shelves outside, lay them flat and spray liberally with the ammonia solution.
Wait 10 minutes or so and hose them off.
