How do I clean my stove? I can lift up the top, but what can I use to clean it with it where food spills when cooking?

I clean my stove top with a dishrag and dishwater when I do my dishes. If you clean it after every use, it never gets bad. You don't say if it is electric or gas. Some products can not be used on a gas stove, especially if it is one with open pilot lights.
