Dog Died Suddenly?

I am hoping someone may know why my dog Charlie died at home suddenly.
He was a Westie of 13 and was very well for his age. He came into the kitchen his happy self and 2 minutes later he was lying on his side and seemed to be seizing. Then he let out an awful howl and just stopped breathing. I know it may sound daft, but I just hope he had no knowledge what was happening to him. He was my best loyal friend and I miss him so much.

You have my deepest condolences on the loss of your fur baby.

Just like humans, sometimes you never know what causes them to pass suddenly.

You could ask his vet for input, but I find it more helpful to focus on the good life you an your pup shared. It is so hard no matter what, to lose a fur baby, but hopefully you can find comfort in your memories and know that you gave your pup a wonderful life!

Hi Rob, I hear you! I miss my girlie every single day!! Our boy is amazing and I love him to pieces too!! Maybe some day you can find it in your heart to bring another lovable rescue into your home and world!! Not as a replacement...that never happens, but to expand your heart to love another fur baby!!! It is so hard to lose a fur child. Take care of yourself!! If you find the grief does not ease, I strongly suggest finding a local grief counselor that specializes in loss of fur kids. Our local animal shelter has an amazing program!! Wishing you always find comfort and joy in your memories!! You gave your pup 11 amazing years and he will keep that joy in his soul always!!

He might have had sudden heart failure due to his old age. The best person to ask is your vet.

I so understand your grief. My Ozzie was 16...got him from a terrible rescue shelter ate up w/fleas so bad he had no hair @ age 5. I didn't take him 2 vet this weekend when he had what I thought was a heat stroke Friday. He had howled, fell over & was dead. I picked him up & held him & he came back after waking up so stiff like. I said I would take him 2 vet on Monday. Sunday I took him 4 a long drive, fed him a slice of bacon....he walked up our outside steps, came inside & seemed 2 b ready 2 fall over. I picked him up, he howled so loud & hard, peed & defecated on me, died. He breathed like 3 breaths of gasps & never came back. I miss him w/all my heart & feel devastated I didn't rush him 2 a 24 hour vet clinic.

But...I was scared they would tell me he was dying & I would b 4ced 2 put him down n a cold sterile vet office. Now...I realize I maybe could've done something but I can never change what is done. He was 16 & I honestly think down deep he was old & it was just his time as heartbreaking as it seems. I c your dog was old also...my guess is a heart attack. I am sure mine was when I Googled things after he passed Sunday. I c this has been a few months 4 U & I pray U R doing better....I look 4ward 2 seeing the rainbow bridge. I've had 3 pass this past 6 mos & I so understand how it can cripple any1. God bless. I will 4ever miss my Ozzie.
