Dog Has Black Tar Looking Buildup in Ears?

My neighbor's dog has had this smelly black looking tar like ear infection for about a year now. I don't know why she hasn't taken her to the vet yet. I was curious what it could be and if it can harm the dog?

Sounds like this may be a yeast infection or a bacterial infection. If it is a bacterial infection there is a risk that it will go into the inner ear. If it does it can destroy the animals balance mechanism.

This cannot be repaired and almost always requires euthanasia because the animal cannot stay upright. I would warn your neighbor that the consequences of ignoring this can be awful for the animal.

I should have mentioned that you should remind your neighbor that she can be legally prosecuted for not getting medical care for a sick animal.

Hey everyone .! We have enough hateful people. In this world .. please stop judging these ppl who don't have thousands of Dollars setting in there bank. It took me 3 years to save enough money to have my dogs mammography tumor removed . It was over $1000.00 . Thanks god the vet in Orland was willing to let me pay it out in payments. But for all of you who are blessed in life to run to vet everyone u feel the need we all can't do it . But that dam sure doesn't mean I don't love my baby anymore than you . It's a flipping money game. Instead of being so hateful maybe u could spread the love and send this women a debit card with like $50 on it. Or whatever u can spare. But please stop being so mean. My daughter worked in a shelter in Northern Calif where every tue was dukes day they would have to walk in and start killing dogs like 10-20 week .

Simply because they couldn't afford to house and feed all the animals . How do I inject and kill a dog who is wagging there tail and licking you just wanting love . So if you want to be hateful and judge that's where u can start . Go adopt another pet. and if any shelter tell you they are a no kill shelter know this they might not be a no kill shelter in that building but I guarantee there's another building somewhere else where they are taking him to put them down .. So stop attacking this lady. BwcUs she can't afford 200 doaklars to walk in and out a vet with a script

True while understanding that I have to also say I have six dogs I don't have six dogs because I'm some greedy Glutton Pig I have six dogs because I've adopted them because I'm afraid of them being put down for no reason just cuz they exist. I can only afford minimal care which means I feed them and I do take them to the vet but anything that's several hundred dollars would probably result in having to put them down. I look for home remedies for lots of things I have one dog that is 11 years old another that is 8 years old another one that is 6 years old one that is 2 years old and two puppies.. I do the best that I can none of them have serious medical conditions.. all of them I have had since they were puppies..

so that at least does not say something about the way I raised them and the way that I take care of them I don't know what does I'm very cautious of what they do they do not go outside of the house they are all potty trained to use TT pads. I do so to make sure I limit the cases of my animals becoming severely ill or injured..

So I would have to say just because someone cannot afford to drop several hundred dollars on a dog per visit per case does not mean that they are a crappy person there's plenty of people with a big heart that is trying to save these animals from being euthanized..

Not everybody is bankrolling and if everyone had the mindset that you do there would be a lot more animals being put down if not everyone can afford vet care then all these animals would be dead all mine are rescues..

My father has a cocker spaniel. She has been treat twice by the vet and she still had the ear infections. The vet prices are high. The best thing you can do is buy organic garlic and organic olive oil and cook it for 20 min. Let it cool and then use a dropper to put it in the deep hole in their ear. Do you research on line. I use my gut i instincts with the amount. I also flush her ears with hydrogen peroxide. It took me a month of cleaning her ear daily using the drops twice a day. I have no clue where the back stuff was coming from but it was a lot. Finally her one ear cleared up well. She still smelled and her other ear didnt look infected on the outside but it smelled horrible. I started the garlic and olive oil in that ear. Her poor ear inflamed and was so red. Obviously she had major yeast going on. Going on week three it is starting to get better.

While we still have the internet watch videos and do your best to do it safely. I do use Q tips with caution. Make sure they are Q tips because they are soft and strong enough to put pressure. I only clean the outsides of the ear canal. Once the inflammation is down and the ear canal is wider, you need to use the Q tip to get at the opening of the ear. They have so many grooves you need to get those all clean and keep them clean. I do the H2O every 3 Days. You need to hold their heads so they do not shake it out. It takes time. But once you truly treat it it shouldnt be as bad. Keep the insides of their ears clean and trimmed. The other thing is starting them in a good probiotic.

I do not do this every day. I am just sharing this so please do not ask questions. Just research

My dog use to get ear infections all the time and here it was allergy related. After getting an allergy test done and seeing what all she was allergic too, I changed her dog food to a no grain and I had to look for dog food that didnt have what she was allergic too in it. She was also allergic to a lot of trees and grass too but that caused her skin issues. I was able to get her allergy issues under control which helped keep her comfortable. So try going to a grain free 5 ingredient dog food. I know Rachel Ray makes one but Im sure theres more out there. Oh and the ear infections would occur about every 2 months or so in my dog. Thats when I knew she was allergic to something.

Bless you, I could not have said it better!! All of these posters with money look and talk and try to make you feel like a heel for not taking your pet to a vet with the enormous costs as if these vets could actually fix your pet, in my experience they do NOT, but your wallet is a lot smaller afterwards, so called do gooders in my book. IF YOU WANT TO CRITISIZE ME FOR LOVING MY DOG WITHOUT MONEY, I will WELCOME your MONEY to help with me trying to fix my very loving dogs ears. We came onto this site with love to try to find answers for our companions problems, and anyone who says you are an idiot for not taking you pet to the vet, in my opinion is living in a fantasy land, you know, the way california is NOW,. Don't criticize ____help out. Thank you for your response to all the do-gooders

DON'T buy dogs if you can not afford a lifetime of vet bill's. If you do your research before buying a dog you will know that no dog is guaranteed to be well throughout its life. Dogs cost a fortune, if you can not afford the medical vet bill's them dont get an animal.
Its cruel to purchase a living thing that you can not look after properly.
Expect to pay 1000's of pounds.
Don't play the victim when your dog/pet is ill or has a nasty accident & you can not afford to pay for it.
You are the villain, a cruel one at that!!

DON'T BUY SOMETHING YOU CAN NOT AFFORD. LOVE WILL NOT MAKE YOUR DOGS ILLNESS GO AWAY. GET REAL & STOP BEING CRUEL YOU DELUDED IDIOT!

These dogs are in these shelters because if women like this one. The can not afford vet Bill's so put the poor animals out on the street, which eventually, if they're lucky, brings them to the shelter. Deluded pet owners come in to mind. STOP PLAYING THE PATHETIC VICTIM. We are talking about the welfare of an animal here not some Gucci handbag that you can no longer afford! ....& why should anyone help her with the costs.
Fail to prepare...prepare to fail!! Simples!!

you should not be allowed to keep animals if you can not afford the vet Bill's. Unless you are doctor Doolittle then there is going to be a time when your 'home remedies' are not enough to fix your dogs....then what? you leave them to die because you've not thought or prepared for such expense? delusional!

Most vet offices have an outside vet credit card you can apply for. I understand why vets hate to extend credit, they seldom get paid and they have a huge overhead.
For those of you that know what an ear infection is, you can go to a farm supply store and buy a syringe of Today, it's an antibiotic for mastitis in a cows teat canal.
3 or 4 drops massaged into the ear canal 4 or 5 times a day should clean up the infection in a week. If not see your vet.

You have too many dogs. Are you sure your not a Greedy, glutton , pig? Had you not, adopted these dogs, they could have, had a better deal in life. You are being neglectful to each and every one of them. Dogs require, absolute undivided attention. You are responsible to have and keep your dogs in shape and healthy. It sounds as though you are just as bad as a shelter. You are having all 6 use the bathroom indoors. How awful and might I add; that should cost a fortune just to keep it sanitary. Give those dogs a chance it life. They don't deserve jail time.
