Female Finches Laying Eggs?

We may have two female society finches laying eggs that we are not sure will hatch. Do they need a male to hatch?

This is an interesting subject as many people do not know that almost any bird (maybe all birds?) can lay eggs without a male present. Such eggs are infertile and will not hatch, even if incubated.
This is the reason so many 'residential' families can have chickens that lay lots of eggs without neighbor complaints as they do not have a rooster in the group doing his crowing in the mornings.

It is usually recommended to try and find ways to discourage pet birds from laying eggs.

If you have no male birds, the female finches cannot lay viable eggs. There could be a small chance that you accidentally got a male but if you see both birds laying, the eggs are infertile and should be discarded soon.

Society Finch females will lay eggs in either the presence or absence of a male, but these eggs will be infertile without mating with a male companion, which means the egg will never develop and hatch.

Only from fertile eggs can chicks appear. You need a male to get fertile eggs.
Are you sure you only have female finches?

The key difference between Male and Female Society Finches is that the male society finches have the ability to sing and dance, whereas the female society finches cannot sing or dance, but are only able to chirp.
