Go to HUD.org, and click on your state. You should find resources there.

You say you are disabled but you also state "our" home so please understand that any type of "free" assistance will depend on you meeting the agency's qualifications and the main question will be about total monthly income.

  • HUD does have some programs for helping with repairs to homes but their main purpose is to put people in government assisted living facilities. HUD is also a government agency and even if you qualify, you will be put on a waiting list that could takes many months to reach your name.
  • You could try Google with your zip code and research Help rebuilding after house fire and some local agencies should show up that you could check out.
  • The Red Cross has a list of places to request assistance and if you did not receive the list you can call them and they will send it to you.
  • Habitat for Humanity also helps in many situations but their funds are limited and their qualifications are pretty stiff but it would be a good place to start.

  • Local churches can sometimes help but not usually with large repairs and many of these repairs require a city/county permit before any work can be done.

Permits are not usually cheap and require fully qualified people to do some of the job.

It would be best if we knew your area in regards to doing a specific search. It would also be best to know whether you own your home and are looking for grants and assistance repairing an existing home (what you state makes me believe this is the case)

YOu should do a google search stating your location and a phrase like "housing repairs assistance grants" or "housing repairs assistance low income"

you can also contact habitat for humanity; they often provide crews to assist you rebuilding a home

best of luck
