French Fried Cauliflower

Love the cheese sauce over the fresh cauliflower. Very, very good!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lg. head cauliflower, separated into flowerettes
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • Ad

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 3/4 cup prepared pancake mix
  • 3/4 cup plain dry bread crumbs
  • 1 bottle oil for deep frying

    Cheese Sauce:

  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash pepper
  • 1 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Cook cauliflower in boiling salted water only 5 minutes. Drain well.
  2. Combine egg, milk, butter and pancake mix.
  3. Dip cauliflower in pancake batter, then roll in bread crumbs.
  4. Place on rack until ready to fry. This may be prepared several hours before frying.
  5. Heat oil in electric skillet to 375 F.
  6. Fry cauliflower in hot oil until golden brown.
  7. Drain.
  8. Serve with cheese sauce.

Cheese Sauce:

  1. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in saucepan.
  2. Blend in 3 tablespoons flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a dash of pepper.
  3. Add 1 1/4 cups milk.
  4. Cook until smooth and thickened.
  5. Add cheese.
  6. Stir until melted.

Cooking Time: 10-15 Minutes
