Help Identifying Stuffed Lion Toy?

An old stuffed lion.I am looking for help identifying where this stuffed lion may have been from originally. It was bought in 2002 or 2003 in Canada. My parents said they bought it from Roots, but I couldn't find anything that looks like it from Roots on eBay or the like.

The most unique thing is that it does have green spots, which were there from the beginning (as can be seen in picture 3). It also originally had a big fluffy tail that has since been ripped off. I did have three of them originally, but I can only find two and neither of them have a tag. If anyone knows where I could find more info about this little dude and/or has any more knowledge about where he may have come from, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Since Roots appears to be a variety/department store, they probably cannot help you with toys they sold in 2002.
However, when trying to identify toys with no tags, you may have to try every avenue available.

There are several online sites that specialize in identifying vintage plush toys. Their members have a lot of experience/knowledge and may be able to help you.
You will need to join the sites (free) before you can post your question. Your pictures may be okay but also try to remember the size as this information usually helps a lot.
Also, add the information about where the tag may have been located - look for any remaining threads where a tag might have been attached.

There are a few Canadian makers of plush toys that you can reach out to for help, if this is a Canadian purchase, they also do custom work- www.happyworker.com/.../custom-plush-toys
