You can buy clock movements that have all three hands if you want. A lot of decorative clocks don't have them.

I used a movement without a seconds hand but the store had all different variations including sweep second hand or tick second hand.

When I replaced the movement in a round, flat wooden clock, I decided to change the color a little. It was yellow, but my bathroom is mostly gray and shades of blue. I put a wash of blue acrylic on the face, let it sit for a minute and then wiped most of it off.
